Nah, most of it is level road with a couple hills. My commute is about 50 miles each way, so if I'm going uphill on the way to school, it's downhill the way back. I just take it easy, it's really not worth the stress trying to get someplace a minute or two faster.

Back to the thread...if I were to do it all over again, I'd seriously take a long look at the V8. It just wasn't a logical choice for me a few years ago.
 
You know what I love about this forum. Regardless, of whether you have the v6 or v8 we all know that the 4runner is one hell of a truck. So when some a$$hole comes in here and tries to knock the 4runner(probaby cause they got a POS Grand Cherokee) everybody regardless
of engine size steps up in defense of the 4runner. It's like a big brotherhood here. I better quit before I start crying. hahaha

Debate is not hate. And, if I remember correctly, you were the one that singled my opinion out. I was just commenting on how I like the V6 and it is enough for me.

I have no problem with the V8...it is a toyota. I didn't want to afford it when I didn't need it. If you did, congrats! ;):

Why would you want a V8 when you don't have a need for it, cause they make one. How many of us need 4WD for off roading,not many I'd bet,most Runners probably never see dirt just snow. So did you really need that great 4WD vehicle ? could have bought a Highlander and got 4WD but you didn't. You wanted the ruggedness and tough look of the Runner so thats why you buy the V8...wanted it all.
After saying all that ,I have a 2005 V6, guess I just didn't want it all but cost is a factor too. I made a hasty decision and now i am sorry...not because the V6 isn't good enough for most of my driving cause I love it. But I would like to haul an occasional car trailer not often but I just didn't consider that when I bought. That 7000# load would be just the ticket,car and trailerwould be fine but no good with the V6. I think a quicker resale with the V8 would be the case too. Mine is leased...oh well ,have to wait 3 years till next time. Who gives a dam about 1 mi/gal. The thing that sold me on the V6 was the VV-t and switchable 4WD. Didn't know the V8 had VV-t.

PS...I needed 4WD. A highlander wouldn't do it for me...like a car. Damn, I should have gotten a RAV4. Thanks beeper!
 
It's a very small, almost tiny V8 relatively speaking. Worth it to me for the torque at low RPM. High RPM's = high wear and tear.

I'm fondly remembering my '71 Corvette with the 454... now that monster really had torque; way too much for the suspension and tires. It was best to never drive it on a wet road.

Even my 289 Mustang had a little more displacement than the 4.7. Close anyway.

also went for the V8 cause of the rumble and throaty exhaust and the SC option, which if it takes any longer I'll be in a new vehicle;):
 
for me, as the saying goes, "the grass is always greener on the other side."

i wish that i had bought the v6 so that i could move between 2wd and 4wd - and shut off the traction control if i felt like it. the extra gas mileage would be a bonus as well. the problem is that the v6 that i test drove was a dog - from the sounds of it, it must have been unique b/c i haven't heard any v6 owners complain.

I don't think the traction control can be turned off on any 4th gen 4Runner.

traction control is always their, I've driven both V6 and V8 and under normal driving, just relaxing and driving along the 2 are very similiar, of course their different but still the engines are both great and like someone mentioned, I think bulldog the V6 is more powerful then the V8 Explorer and I have driven a Trailblazer and the 4Runner V6 hands down feels like a monster compared to what GM has going on.

and as far as test drives go, they are sometimes not the best way to judge a vehicle, I took an S55 out in 5pm traffic so that sucked but the S65 I took out for a day was bitchin:awais:

Thing was sweet but seriously, they should not be selling those to anyone just cause they have 200 large to spend, thing is a jet on wheels, on steep hills I floored it and the thing will accelerate faster uphill then most cars can go down and it will get air:D

I may go back for a SL65 testdrive, odd how they are willing to deal on them the S65 the place dropped it to 134k, it was also the bosses car with 5k on the clock and they had it for several months;):
 
It is the super charged 12 right? That is too much power for the kind of people that drive it. I mean i like to think that i can handle it, but i had a hard time with a viper shelby cobra. all engine and nothing else. 450 at the wheels. and the exhaust note from the side pipes was a dream come true.

twin turbo V12, thing sounds like a jet, just for an idea it does 0-60 in 4 something, I had it up to 130 in a 30, 1st of all the thing takes off like a bat out of hell and 2nd, that ticket would have been crazy, it was an open area no traffic and you can see a good distance but still, the car is wicked.

I felt bad on the highway doing 75, thing is built to burn the autobahn up, I passed a cop at 90, I think I outran him and thats when I was like alright car goes back, thats way to much car for 99% of the drivers, their are no tracks, no places to open it up, all I did was gas brake, gas brake, the sound going WOT is amazing:D

Car is crazy and now AMG is working on faster versions:arrow: what for

i was told that the traction control could be disengaged on the v6 model (not to be confused with VSC). perhaps it is only on the 2WD versions?

I think that you may be correct. Only 2WD models. That would make sense.
