KDSS vs non kdss

So been debating about a new 4runner for months now. Every night I go to sleep wanting one and every morning I wake up wanting one. I'm not kidding. It's almost starting relationship issues =/(she just teases me about it). So my question is, is it worth the extra grands? I find it impossible to find a trail near me to test drive and even compare (central nj). I figure when the 2016s start rolling out people will probably trade them in to get a newer one. I'm just so curious. Wanted to wait a year. But after seeing all the stuff I could and would like to do it (mods)... Just makes my every 3 days off a project fananza.

So opinions? Thanks guys

Opinions will clearly vary, but I love mine. Drives much more like a car on the pavement with your day-to-day travels. You dont get that rolling over feeling on tight curves like you get without KDSS.

Lots of talks on the topic here, I like mine with it and would buy it again.

Only real way to decide is driving both. If you're putting that amount of money for a new T4R, its worth a drive out of town to try one.

The only downside to it is if you plan some real hardcore mods to suspension, KDSS could pose some limits, search is your friend here.

Not the end of the world honestly either way, as even ending up with non-KDSS = more money leftover for mods :biggrin1:

Or you could wait another year for the V8 on the 2017s :drummer:

Ive had a 10 without and my 15 does have it. Its a noticeable difference on-road, I feel the off road advantage is marginal. I spend more time getting to the mountain, then I do wheeling on the mountain so its been worth it for me. Where it really like having it is the twisty mountain roads.

If I was planning on wheeling it fairly hard I probably would not go with it. At that the end of the day you have to be honest with yourself about what you want in the vehicle.

I also vote yes! HOWEVER, i'm a strong believer in "application". If you were only going to hit the trails, i'd say get an SR5...if you're going to drive it everyday I'd say get KDSS.

I drive mine everyday and really enjoy the additional stability of the KDSS.

Good luck with your decision!

Mines gonna be more of an everyday driver, not so much trails so suspension I don't worry about. Maybe in the future. Mainly just wanna do a ton of interior mods and a few exterior mods. I really wish I could find a trail for under 25k. The thing is I'm new to 5th gens, I have a shitty 2wd 3rd gen but I love it death. Just wish my previous owner took better care of the interior and exterior. So I don't even know what's good prices and points for a decent trail. I'm looking st probably a 2011+ Trail with less than 75k miles, red white or black. Wanting to spend 25k and under.

Quick side question; I've never had to finance before so this is why I ask. If you buy from an individual you can't get an auto loan for it right? I'd have to go with a personal loan?

I've got one with and one without. Well worth it for a DD. Steering is much more "responsive" for lack of a better term.

Amirocassar Now, before you've found your dream T4R, is the time to start lining up your financing. Do you belong to a credit union? Even a bank is most often better than the dealership finance department. Be skeptical - it's your money on the line. Shop around for financing, and get pre-approval. And ask them about their requirements for privately-purchased vehicles.

Best of luck!

I've got it on my '15, but I don't consider it a "got to have" option. Do consider that if you buy it, you'll probably get the money for the KDSS back out of it in resale though.

As far as KDSS, I vote yes. It is very nice to have

You absolutely can get an auto loan and buy from an individual. A bank, or better a credit union, can pre-approve you based on general terms (like you said a 2011+ 4Runner Trail). Then when you find the specific one you want you call and give them the VIN number and they finalize the loan.

But definitely check on financing before shopping so you know how much you are approved for. Would suck to fall in love with a vehicle and later realize you can't get approved for enough to buy it.

Yea. I really wish toyota offered 0% financing like jeep does all the time. Otherwise I'd get one right now. Lol. I can afford it. I'm sure the loan wouldn't be the problem, I just wish I would've saved more this past year. Was doing some stuff to my 3rd gen. Thanks for the recommendations though

FWIW - just to add a bit to what's already been said - if you have good credit you can often now just take a low interest personal loan. These are basically car loans without collateral. I've seen them generally around 2 - 2.5% for people with very good credit. In many ways for private purchase this is an easier way to go.

Good luck.
