YEP, main differences are the processors. Seperate ones for nav and radio functions. bluetooth funtionality

Hey gshadow325. How is posting new info I received being impatient. I had already sent Kenwood an e-mail and ran across this thread while trying to do more research. I posted here, Kenwood responded so I updated the thread. Sounds more like trying to get an answer than being impatient.
I asked Kenwood to be sure the DNX would work with any media beam device. I have never used one. The company installing the DNX has never used one with this model and could not comment. They advised me to contact Kenwood. I ran across this thread and saw your pictures and thought I would inquire further.
So I guess you know more than Kenwood and all the different media beam devices on the market and their compatibility with the DNX. Since you have obviously tested them all, which ones work? Which ones have problems? Your thread did not have what specific beam device you used.

good that you edited your message from your original message. i stopped work to respond to your original message.
Why i suggested the shop installing your radio should know what to do if they were legitimate Kenwood Authorized dealers. they would know who to call and get answers. I sell $$$$$ of kenwood and i know a lot. I give the techs feedback on problems and compatability issues with their latest products. i know a lot more than your average joe about this stuff. so should the shop installing this unit if they are kenwood authorized dealer.
so what you can do is use this piece pictured below. its a $40 piece that plugs in via hdmi and powered thru usb and is a dongle that will transmit video and audio via wifi.
you cant expect kenwood to suggest a product that they dont sell. you cant expect kenwood to even give you info for that.
like i said in the first post, i am a radio whore. i have the ability to try lots of stuff out. you didnt even see my threads about wiring up a right turn blind spot camera to the kenwood dnn991hd i got, or the front camera i got installed, or the front and rear dash cams i have done in my truck. i had in my truck since march of 2013 kenwood dnx690, kenwood dnx890, kenwood dnn990, kenwood dnx691hd, kenwood 891hd and now dnn991hd. why? i am a kenwood dealer. when the new models come in, i install the latest one and return the last one i got for full credit. awesome just cost me some time.
so if you need more info on the media beam thingy, i have 3 in stock and can send you one for $47 shipped via USPS

I am in the market for a new kenwood Deck. I currently have the DNX 9980HD. I am looking at the DNN991 DNN990 DNX 891 and DNX 890. Can you explain the major differences over my current deck? Do the 991 and 891 now have faster and dual processors and the added HDMI capabilities? Is so then the 890 and 990 are out and can you just explain the reason to pay $400 more for the 991. If its only the wifi and everything else is the same I can do without that. Thanks in advance. My biggest complaint about my 9980 is that it freezes and then turns it self off. But I am putting it in my gf's truck and upgrading mine. I had heard that the new units could also play mkv files. Do you know if this is true?
