King springs

so I'm trying to find a suitable coil spring to match my new billys (5100/5160) and I believe I've settled on a set of Kings. I figure I need 700lb spring rate (will be running a winch, but stock bumper), and I'd like to sit level front to rear and achieve about 2" of lift, and, hopefully, a firmer ride. I know the Bilsteins have adjustable preload, so my question is....

am I better off sticking with stock length coils and crank up the preload to get the lift, or stay with a low preload and get a taller coil?

Give down south motorsports a call and they'll set you up. To me #700 is a bit much for just a winch. Synthetic line?

i run 700# on my '10 tundra crewmax with a bumper and winch. it might ride a bit stiff for a runner with only a winch. your preference though. the more you preload, the rougher your ride gets

700# is crazy overkill. 650# is recommended for Winch+Bumper.

I'm running stock bumper + budbuilt winch plate + winch on 600# coils and its fine.

The plan is a Warn m8000 on steel line.

I had read somewhere that the ome "stock weight coils" were 620lb, hence my choice for 700lb once I get 80 pounds of winch and mount loaded up.

Again, longer than stock coil, or just dial up the preload to accomplish lift?

Stock springs should be #550. Also coil length, spring rate, and preload all factor into ride height.

Ok, let me come at this another way. Anyone know the length of the oem front and rear coils?I've googled near and far and can't seem to come up withan answer

Give DSM a call tomorrow and they'll take care of you, trust me.

Well, dsm tells me that King doesn't make any spring that will fit the Bilstein 5100, that the shocks weren't designed to run with aftermarket springs anyway. They told me that if I did find springs to fit that i would never get the truck in alignment, and then tried real hard to sell me King coilovers for $1400...
The 5100 has a 2" od body, seems to me the king 2.5" id coils would fit real nice, and it should just be a matter of getting the right coil height and spring rate, no?

I can see that since king makes their springs to fit their coilovers. I know of guys running OME coils on 5100's so maybe you should consider them.

most aftermarket springs will fit in most aftermarket coil retainers. That is your question. Are the stock the same dimensions as aftermarkets and will aftermarket coils- EIBACH, KING, etc.. going to fit an application where the OEM toyota spring was made to fit.
I suspect the OEM Toyota springs and the Bilstein 5100 are smaller dimensions then all the beefy aftermarket coilovers. That is why the 5100's were developed, to fit the stock springs and save $$ to the consumer but still achieve a moderate lift with moderate performance.
I suggest buying a true coilover that will better suite your needs. You are trying to tune something that was not designed to tune. Buy a proper coil, then you will be able to adjust your ride in a multitude of ways. King, Fox, ICON, Radflo, and others have coilovers already sized for the Runner that you can revalve and respring infinitely. Or keep the 5100's, slip an oem spring in it, and be happy with a lift.
