Ko2's or ?

so getting ready to pull my winter tires off and looking at my Ko2's...well...Im not gonna go another season on them. I think if I was still in Oregon I would..but out here in Alaska Im not.
I was very happy with my ko2's. And when I walk around parking lots etc, it seems Ko2 or general grabbers are the most popular. Seen some falkins.and of course tons of tires that are only for hiway so I dont look at those brands....could also be we have limited choice around here.
I have not paid much attention to how many miles they have gone. Got in spring 2016 and in Oregon they were off the road and replaced with studded snows about 4 months a year ( worked up in high mountains...lots of snow and ice..k02s suck on ice)

oh...and I do maybe now run 70% gravel off road 30% pavement and in Oregon it was prob 50/50. I run E series to help fight against rocks and sharp things in all the gravel

so sorry to bring up an old topic....but ..... what you guys rocking.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W's sound like a good fit for you. They're available in LT, have similar or better traction than KO2's, have better wet handling than KO2's, and are fairly quiet on road

Those Falken Wildpeaks are gaining a lot of traction:tongue1: They're real popular with the Tacoma guys. The things said in this thread and what a read before are, in my opinion, true aboutr the KO2s, not so great on wet roads or ice, started to get noisy after about 15K. They were GREAT for anything offroad and they looked damn good. I do like the look of the Falkens though. I thought I read something about the siping in the tread disappearing too early as they wore and lost a lot of their wet traction. I read that 3 years ago so maybe they changed something.
 
On my second set of Cooper AT3 tires and I am sold on them. Great mileage, good off road performance in a crazy set of conditions, good road manners in rain/dry/muddy, and the price is right. Plus they have a mileage warranty.

I have ran KO2s, Hankook ATs, and Goodyear LTs on this 4Runner. I am staying with the Coopers. Lower weight and they take a real beating off road.
 
I’ve been reading that Duratracs are pretty much like KO2s, but then even better in snow and ice. I would be getting them, but Costco doesn’t carry them :(
 
I got duratracs last year and love em. Cant see myself buying a different set. I came from nitto grapplers and it was a night and day difference for me.

I don’t buy into hype. No GOBI here either.

I have had Falken Wildpeaks for about two years. Wear is great. Snow, ice, rain and floods they do good. Off-road loose rock, sand, mud they do fine.

They are a little noisy but it’s an AT it’s going to be a little noisy. They “can” be difficult to balance but it depends on if it’s a lazy tech doing the job.

My lifted Tundra has never used anything but the Toyo MT. They are great on the road. I tow a 10,000 lb toyhauler and they are great in sand snow mud and hard packed dirt. They last as long as you rotate them frequently. There are better tires on the road like the Dunlap A/T tire on my wife's trd pro but when the pavement ends most other tires get left behind. If you don't go offroad but a few times a year and even then it is just light trail riding you could get a light truck tire and call it a day.

I’m off-road nearly every weekend, which is why I’m considered MTs, but I don’t want to lose a lot of MPG or sacrifice on road performance such as in rain/snow/ice.

Ko2's aren't noisy, and mine took very little weight. Maybe not so over rated?:bump2:

The MT is a great tire in deep snow. I've used my tundra alot to get into the back country and thru deep virgin snow. Unfortunately you can't have a great offroad tire and have great fuel economy as well. The aggressive tread will hurt your mpg. Also a MT isn't as good as an all weather tire in the rain nor is it as good as a snow tire on hard packed snow or ice. But if you offroad alot the MT aggressive tread will serve you well off the road in any terrain. My MT toyo have NEVER had a failure and are much quieter than KO that I've had on other vehicles.

I am 4 for 8 for having them replaced for being out of round. Now that I have round ones they ride OK, but I am unimpressed for how much they cost.

They've surprised me with how well they've done off road though.

I bought the Load C's they made specifically for the Raptor's, so I'm wondering if there's a difference there being that it's an OEM spec.

He’s from Arizona. Last tire thread one of the Texas guys recommended a very similar set of AT tires as being great.

It’s interesting the preferences in different areas.
Here in NW folks run the various AT tires on SUV’s and trucks. They are good for the occasional snow and ice we get.
I’ve run most of the tires mentioned and like the Hancook dynapro and Cooper Discoverer for on road use.
But off-road here those tires quickly plug up with mud and clay and become slicks.

One must consider your use when evaluating opinions.

KO2’s are hard on fuel mileage, pick up rocks, and aren’t great in mud. But they are great in snow, decent on ice, and good or better for everything else.
Not my favorite though. I think the compound is too hard in them, and I agree on the roundness issues. They feel like a bias ply tire.

I much prefer the Duratrac’s by a fair margin. Better road manners and they clean out better in mud and wet snow.

But if you pound lots of hot pavement at 80mph you probably want a higher mileage rated AT tire.
