Kurtis T4R Build Thread

I've never been one to have multiple lights on my truck but I'm trying to add atleast a large lightbar and set of fogs for starters using the space under my single din headunit just like yours. I like that setup a lot.

2nd phase of this project is to move my rear window switch and ect power switch under my headunit (I upgraded to a 99 center console). I would think the ect power switch would just need to be a SPST. The rear window up down control would need to be a DPDT and I would need to switch polarity so the window motor would run in forward and reverse from what I understand.

It sounds like you are on the right path. Just hit me up if you have any questions.

Well, I just spent A METRIC ASS TON OF MONEY. I just order a set of Hutchinson Rock Monster Double Beadlock Wheels in black. I feel guilt, guilt in the pit of my stomach for spending that much. I stared at the submit button for at least 10 minutes... But in the end, I clicked.

Not trying to name drop here but I ordered from Trail Worthy Fab because they were the only folks that didn't have a 3-6 month waiting list, the prices are better than most and they deal with Hutchinson all the time.

I was going to go with Trail Ready Beadlock Wheels but I really wanted something I would never have to worry about again. So I went with the Double Beadlock. I will never have to worry about blowing a bead again. Another thing that sold me on these is they are DOT compliant. I don't expect to get hassled by law enforcement but now I will be 100% legit.

I will be ordering tires in about a month. Need to space purchases out so my wife won't leave me.

Now that I think of it though I think I did use my ash tray 12V lead. You could use either. I used the 12V lead to run through a relay and allow another switched 12V to come from the fuse block under the drivers dash. That way I didn't have to worry about what was already on that circuit.

I've had a couple questions on this. Let me see if I can give a quick electronics lesson.

Relay-
Noun 1. electrical relay - electrical device such that current flowing through it in one circuit can switch on and off a current in a second circuit
relay
circuit, electric circuit, electrical circuit - an electrical device that provides a path for electrical current to flow
electrical device - a device that produces or is powered by electricity
electromagnet - a temporary magnet made by coiling wire around an iron core; when current flows in the coil the iron becomes a magnet

Below is a picture of a relay.

sscully-albums-misc-picture20636-aux-lamps-simple-drawing.jpg

The purpose of this relay is to turn on a pair of lights. There are 2 circuits here. One that turns on the relay (Pin 85 and 86) and the other that passes through the relay and powers the lights (Pin 30 and 87). Pin 87a is not connected to anything.

You can use the same concept with Pin 85 being your Ash Tray 12V, Pin 86 going to ground. Pin 30 would go to your power (Fused 12V like I did from the fuse block under the driver side dash.) And Pin 87 that would go to your independent LEDS.

I don't know where I will get around to it but I have been thinking about building a basic electrical thread for folks. It would include different properties of electricity and how to install lights, accessories, electronics, etc safely.

PLEASE be careful taping that headlight wire, and make sure to use a diode protected relay. I found this out the hard way, that the auto-headlight control circuit is located within the gauge cluster, and the cheapo relay that I used blew out the IC's in there, thus leaving me with no headlights at all....

Just a word of caution

If you actually read the conversation you will see that I only used this diagram to give cj80cruiser an example of how a relay works.

Said merely as a word of caution in case anyone gets any ideas from that photo. Diode protection would be good to add to your mini-lesson...

No need to be a dick, señor

I'm trying to figure the cleanest way to run all these wires. I'm going to have 5 spst switches with independent upper light similar to what you have but the 6th will be a dpdt momentary on/off/on switch to control my rear hatch window.

One of the problems I'm having is finding info on the Internet for the draw those small independent lights will have so I can determine the appropriate wire gauge. I was thinking of getting a blue sea fuse box to help clean things up a bit. I think I'm just confusing myself and making this WAY more complicated than it should be.

I didn't use a Blue Sea Fuse Box when I did mine. I used one from the local parts store. Blue Sea Fuse Boxes are great though. I know a lot of folks use them. I would use 16 or 18 Gauge wire for those. They don't draw very much amps.

Ok, I may go ahead and get the fuse box then.

BTW I've been wanting hutchinson wheels for years now. They are definitely bad ass and they'll look awesome with those pitbulls.

Hopefully you saw this before you clicked submit...

KMC Enduro Beadlocks on CL

The ones you chose are better looking for sure but if you aren't picky about that then it could have been a deal.

I'm excited to see how you make those fit!

I'm pretty sure I've seen those on NW-Wheelers for sale. I wasn't really going for the looks. The reason I wanted Rock Monster Beadlocks was because it was a double beadlock versus a single. I figured that I only wanted to spend that much money on wheels once. So I figured I'd do it right the first time. Trail Ready, KMC, Walker Evans, Allied, and such are all great wheels. I just wanted the piece of mind knowing that no matter what, I would not loose a bead. And I also don't plan on running a spare.

Here is how a single beadlock works.

Here is a diagram of a double beadlock wheel.

There are different kinds of beadlocks out there. From what I've seen I think the double beadlocks work the best.

Thanks for the info. I had just assumed that all beadlocks were double because why would you only want to lock the outer bead?

I learned something today :thumb3:

I got the dash LEDs in last week.

Well Done sir. Well Done.

So i have been looking it mounting up some switches for my truck and noticed how you have your set up. It looks like you have your CB mounted under the switch panel, do you get any electrical interference on the cb with the switch wires riding that close?

I haven't had any interference from the switch panel. I do get interference from the blinkers if I remember right. I plan on fixing it when I get a chance. I'm sure it's from the chasis of the radio not being grounded. Not too worried about it for now though.

UPDATE! Beadlocks come in? You order the rockers yet?

Yup, beadlocks are in. They are sitting in the shop waiting for me to get home so I can pet them and hold them and hug them and love them. My wife was kind enough to send me a picture.

Rockers are on order and they shipped 2 days ago. Hope to get them next week. I will be ordering 5.29s and an ARB Air Locker in the front in a couple weeks.

It's been a while since I've checked in here.... looking good man! :)

Thanks man! Can't wait to get the tires and wheels on it!

:lmao: :lmao: reminds me of the diner scene in tommy boy

Man those beadlocks are NICE. Can't wait to see them mounted up with those rockers. A new porno in the making.

Tires were delivered today. The wife sent some courtesy pictures. Maybe, to be nice, maybe, just to taunt me. Probably taunt.

I can't wait to go wheelin'.

Those are going to be awesome on the trail, your wife seems pretty cool to always send you updates on your purchases!
