LE surprise finding

I have a 2012 LE and I usually use the remote start on cold mornings to warm it up before I have to leave home. Friday morning I packed all of my army gear up, closed everything up and hit the remote start to warm it up. I didn't lock it. I know if you open the door it will shut off so you can't drive off with it. Or so I thought.

I went back into the house to grab my go bag and coffee and headed back to the truck. Opened up the rear lift gate, threw my bag in and then it hit me. The truck didn't shut off. If I was not the owner, I could have climbed in and probably driven away. I'm not sure if that was possible because I didn't try it (I will at some other time) but it did give me cause for concern. I'm posting this just to make others aware.

Lesson learned: lock your vehicle first, then engage the remote start.

As soon as prospective thief would have applied brake to shift into drive engine would have shut down.

Leaving doors unlocked would have allowed thief to steal your stuff in vehicle..............:AK47:

Agreed, the factory remote should lock the doors on the first button press, if you have that and it didn't OP something is wrong.

I'm glad that applying the brakes would have prevented a drive off.

FYI - Locked or not - leaving a running vehicle unattended (even in your driveway) will get you a ticket in some places.

I think Colorado law allows for remote start systems even though "puffing" will get you a ticket, and sometimes a stolen car as my brother found out once!

Most remote start systems will die if the brake is pressed without a kit Transponder in the ignition.
The tag you shown that the dealer gave you seems confusing? Why would you want to remotely start your vehicle, and have it turn off when you unlock the door to get in??
Doesn't make sense?

My (aftermarket) alarm will remotely start, and run for 20 min. if no key is put into the ignition it will turn itself off and reset the alarm.
If someone presses the brake without the key in the ignition it will shut off.

It's just the way they designed the OE remote start, I've gotten used to it turning off when I open the door. I just assume it's more secure that way given it is possible to drive away with no "key" in a Limited after it's been started then be stuck somewhere with no way to start it, don't ask me how I know that!

So I'm assuming you don't have the OE remote start?
