Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

My T4R Finally Lifted!

I finally got my lift done by a local shop (Lifted Life Customs) here in Pensacola. They installed the Rough Country 3/2 lift kit for me and they did an amazing job because they are good at what they do. Afterwards I took it to a local alignment shop that is rated the best in town because they align your vehicle the old school way manually which they have been around since 1943.
I love the lift height over the stock height, but wish it was a little higher in the front since it still has a slight rake. I was thinking about adding the bilstein 5100's later on the front to lift it where I want it, but that will be down the road since I already paid for the alignment and don't want to pay for that again.

I have mine level now and I actually wish the rear was slightly higher, if I even just load the back up with a few tools the rear looks like it drops waaaay down lol, much worse with a trailer.

Looks great! Rub? Taken them off-road yet?

I have those in 265/70 and have 5k on them. You'll love them! Wish they were offered in 255/75 or 275.

Appreciate it! I remember reading your posts about them over in the 5th Gen thread. I have no rubbing due to the tire. I do rub a hard over on the passengers however due to a bad alignment which I'm about to correct. These are definitely bigger in size than the AT IIs.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a change to get them off-road yet other than gravel parking lots. :moping: Hoping to change that soon.

Are those range E? How's the weight feel?

I wanted the P-rated version for sure in these tires given that they are already heavier than most other ATs. I can feel the weight but they roll so smooth once you're up to speed its worth it IMO. These may show wear quicker than the equivalent LT version but also have a 55k warranty.

P285, means they are no where near E load. P stands for passenger, good ride. E are LT tires.

CrimsonCountry was smart a few years back and got out of the rough ride :-).

Yup! I had to be realistic and realize that 98.5% of my driving was pavement pounding. Even then, you could get by with Ps as long as you weren't having to air down a lot.

Sorry, I missed the P. Yeah I'm familiar with what E is, I'm trying to hear from someone running E's. I'm conflicted between which I should buy. My main concern is puncturing a tire on the trail but if it will mean 15 mpg all on their own...maybe I can deal with P's. I got word direct from falken that both the E and P are two ply sidewalls but the E's are reinforced and have deeper more durable treads. The guys said the P's will show wear faster.

P = suck and not going to doing any wheeling except Fire roads.

Details in sig

would you share your overall height of the car in the rear? i want to get 2" springs for the rear, but might not be able to fit in my garage. I currently have the FJ TT 4x4 Springs in the rear. you have the same tire size and lift kind of as me. Thanks.

Its been a while since I've posted and a fair bit has changed to the rig. Picked up a prinsu designs roof rack and some accessories for it. Added 06+ headlights and taillights with led low beams also.

Looking for help on a suspension issue from the dealer

I recently purchased a new 2016 trail premium, I had the dealer install a Toytec 3" Bilstein 5100 lift kit all around with Toyo Open Country AT 295/70/R17 on some wheels they had at the dealership (not sure what they are). The problem is that the upper control arms and the steering knuckles ended up about 1/8" away from the tire wall. The dealership is offering to fix the problem by either changing the wheel type or changing the upper control arms. I don't know enough about this to know which option is really the best option. Any help?

Its pretty much personal choice. Wheels with a greater offset will pull the tire away from the UCA and will give the rig a wider stance. UCAs will create a better geometry with the lift and allow for better alignment as well as potentially give better travel of the tire off roading.

Wheels will give better looks. UCAs will give more performance in the long run. I still run stock wheels with my 35" tires and lift. I also ran stock UCAs and opted for wheel spacers instead of getting UCAs or wheels. I doubt the dealership will do this but if you do get wheel spacers make sure to get Spidertrax hub centric spacers.

thank you all for the information and comments about which direction I could take. I'll post pictures once I get it back from the dealership.

My opinion on this, is go upper control arms for sure. Especially if they're going to foot the bill. At that much lift an aftermarket upper control arm will allow you to get your caster back in spec easier and usually offer more suspension travel.

295 is such an odd size. I don't see them run very often, but with that wide of a tire, if you decrease offset, you're going to run into potential rubbing issue with your fenders, body mounts and firewall.

I ran an extremely wide tire at one point (almost 13") and they were always very close to my UCA. They would actually kiss at full droop. I never really experienced too much of an issue with that though. As long as they don't touch during normal operation.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input. I talked to the dealership and we ended up doing the following deal for $500 - I hope I didn't mess things up by not knowing much about suspensions and wheels... I'll get new Toyo Open Country AT 285/70-R17 tires mounted on new Ray-10 black wheels with a set of SPC Adjustable upper control arms. The new tires are replacing the 295/70-R17 they had put there 2 weeks ago when I bought it new. The dealership was telling me that either the new wheels or the control arms would fix the problem of the tires being too close to the suspension parts; but at the end I told them to do both changes.

Recently purchased 06 SR5 w 110k on the clock. Talked myself into a modest discount as the shocks and struts were gone, which was great because I was planning to replace it all anyway. Today had the Toytec 3" lift with 5100s and Toytec springs all around. Here's an after pic, plus some crappy iPhone photos for a before/after comparison. Loving the change.

Previous owner installed 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler Authorities.

Looks Great! What size tire are you running now? I'm looking into getting the same 3" lift and install 285/70-17 on the stock wheels. Is their anything you would have done different?

Been reading pages and pages... my head hurts. can I get a 3 in lift with having getting aftermarket uca ? Do all 4runners have Alignment problems at 3 in? Also I do want to run 285 tire size. Might just go with a 2.5 lift... if 3in has all the trouble .

I'll throw another option out which hasn't gotten much attention here. Kumho Road Venture AT51. Currently #2 on TireRack behind KO2's, albeit with a low sample size as it is a newer tire. Mountain snowflake rated AT with DEEP 15.6/32" lugs in LT sizes.

Had size 255/75/17 load C mounted last week and was finally able to give these a spin off road. Initial impressions were great, though I wish I had a set of KO2's to compare. Thanks to the changing seasons here in Colorado, I saw dirt, rocks, light (1-2") mud, and slick snow covered ascents and descents. I only aired down slightly from 37 to 30(hot) and the Kumhos gripped well in all situations. No slipping whatsoever.

As far as on-road, I'll echo what the other reviews have said. Quiet and track well. Haven't tackled high speed highway snow and ice yet, but I expect they will excel due to the high amount of siping and mountain snowflake rating. My only concern is in long term tread wear as the rubber feels a bit soft to the touch. But, then again, it's a mountain snowflake rated AT; so that's to be expected. Assuming no surprises this winter, I'd definitely recommend these for half the price of KO2s. I paid $660 out the door after rebate.

Just Lifted her on Tuesday, Front - Blistine 6112 strut kit 2.5" lift, Rear OME Heavy Duty 2" springs with Bilstine 5100 rear shocks. Right now the rear gave me a 3" lift. I like a little rake, but this is a bit too much. The guy at the shop said it should settle in a couple of weeks. Still running the 265/65-17 and I like to get 285/70-17 tires.

Yes, that rake is a bit too much. The OME HD coils are designed for carrying a constant heavy load, like 600lbs of camping/touring stuff. Will you be doing that? If not, I don't think they will settle as much as you need.

I have 2.5" with no problems. I honestly thought I had 3" until I checked the spring specs when looking to upgrade. I'd go 2.5" and throw in the 1/2" spacer when you can afford UCA's
