Theo85: The stock roof rack isn't really made for that kind of weight (for long). I had mine up there for about a week, but it was making all kinds of noise and clearly not being held well. So: I built a "ghetto" roof rack with spare parts and some Yakima mighty mounts (Don't worry, more straps and a cable lock were added- before it goes anywhere, the truck is rolling).

This is a temporary fix as well. To be honest: it's loud and acts like a sail in a good wind. I've got a rear bumper in the works, but need a place to keep that stuff til then.
However, for a short run, I'd say go for it.

They don't stick out but a tiny bit from the sliders, and the sliders are tucked tight enough that I need to bend them down a tiny bit to save paint on the bottom of the rear doors.
Warning: for those who choose (or were chosen) to modify a 4Runner, the "to do list" never really gets shorter...:drum:
