Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

I have a '06 V8 4wd, looking to get the toytec 3" 5100 lift, then upgrading to 275/70R17 tires, does anyone know if that size tire will still fit underneath as a spare?

i have a 275/65/18 in the spare location. should be similar in size (mine is a goodyear wrangler AT with half the tread life left)

I'm a little regretting I didn't put the 1/2" front diff drop in. I had enough work to do, but violated the rule "buy once cry once install once".

I'm at 2.75" with a BOSS kit and the CV boot fins touch a tiny bit, I'd rather have the axles horizontal and no fins touching. It's done now so nothing left but crying.

I am going to finally ask cause I have always wondered. what is a diff drop and what are the benefits to it?

Hey! My first pic post. 2005 limited, 125K, I installed a boss 3 inch today. I have some concerns about the lack of clearance between steering knuckle and tire. Stock wheels and 265/65 r17s. I read a ton before launching off into this myself and I never read anything about this. Any ideas? Haven't had it aligned yet, but I can't see that much adjustment being possible.

You're at 3" with the Boss using stock UCA's, I have Boss on both my '07 and '08.

On the '08 I put SPC UCA's on so I could boost the lift up to 3". Here's a pic of the SPC UCA's with the Boss kit. The SPC's you move the balljoint inward and it gets that spindle inward. The pic is with stock 265/60/18 wheels and Mich LTX tires.

I'm far from an expert, but your CV angles don't look too good also. My belief is if there are a bunch of boot fins touching you have bad CV angles. Again, I'm not an expert but possibly the aftermarket UCA's help with the CV angles also. I'll add pics of my current CV angles also, I'm at about 2.75" lift with BOSS in front

TAC-DR-05 - Front Differential Drop Kit

It tilts the diff down a slight bit. It helps with the angles. Some say its useful and some say its not. I have had mine for years with no issue.

What I read was people didn't like the diff drop because you end up dropping your front skid plate down 1" also, which neuters a lift's benefit.

I posted above I kind of regretted not installing the diff drop, but forgot about the skid plate drop requirement.

Flip flop, thanks for the info and the pics. Yeah, I've got something wrong. I do have the diff drop kit installed. My BOSS kit is second hand, so 1. I don't really know the current setting, and 2. I don't have a spanner wrench to adjust them!

I measured my change at just under 3 inches and have read enough install stories that went to 3" with no issues, I'll reduce the lift and see if it straightens things out some.

Instead of buying the $30 wrench ended up buying a northern freight $5 punch set and used the 3/8 punch with a bike handle bar for leverage to adjust my coilovers.

Finally got my lift done! Bilstein 5100's with Moog FJC springs set at 1.75". Stock Wheels and tire configuration. New wheels and tires coming soon...:biggrin1:

Got my 2 inch iron man lift with new iron man struts and springs installed! Got it from forum sponsor metaltech 4x4! They were great to work with! The install was fairly simple but time consuming but I did get rid of the xreas so that is a plus... For the fronts I am measuring at 37" to the bottom of the fender. The rear measures at 39"... I am not sure how I feel about the rake. I wanted heavier duty springs so when I tow my light trailer I don't sag in the rear... I just have not figured out if I can live with the rake or if I should install the second 1/2" spacer I have that comes with the kit? What do you guys think ? How much take are you running ?

I couldn't take the rake so I got a spacer installed before the alignment . Looks much better now ! Now sits at 38" for the front and 39" in the rear!

OK, so this is pretty embarrassing, but I got it figured out. Second hand BOSS kit off of a Lexus gx470. I assumed that the max possible setting was the 3 inches recommended not to exceed. Further, I assumed that the coilovers were set to that 3 inch mark.

I jammed them in and observed all the crazy clearances. NOPE! I had lifted it 4 inches in front, thus jacking the steering knuckles and etc. I backed it off an inch and the clearances look a LOT better!

In related news, the spanner wrench is now my least favorite tool.

Having just done a 3 inch icon lift, Im asking myself the diff drop question. Both the cv boots are torn and I have OEM kits ready to be installed. But still wondering if I should purchase a toytec diff drop kit.
