is it a thing now to install coilovers upside down?

5100s get installed "upside down" in the front on Tacomas and 4Runners. Just like factory coilovers and OME coilovers.

Rear 5100s, OME shocks, and factory shocks get installed with the shock shafts on the top as well.

Well, today I learned! I’m glad there’s users like you on here! (This is what happens when you have no automotive experience prior to owning a 4Runner and trying to learn everything in your mid 20’s hahaha)
Seriously though, it’s nice that this forum isn’t anything like the reddit one. You guys are insightful and not rude about it when someone is wrong.

Also, love that Vault Boy decal you got!

So exactly how I was 2 years ago... I've spent a ton of time researching on this site and I've picked up a thing or too. I've surprised myself on how much I've learned.

Never would’ve guessed that. Your posts always have detailed information. I’d say you definitely picked up more than a “thing or two” haha

I regret not taking auto shop with my buddy’s in high-school.
Hopefully with time I’ll get myself there, it’s actually really fun (and confusing) learning this stuff.

Shock shafts are better protected on the top, but you can run into clearance issues with the axle housing. Twin-tube shocks can take a couple dents to the body, monotube's can't from what I've read.

Maybe mono-tube shocks work better upside down?

Slee Offroad OME BP-51 install. Appx 2.5-3 in the rear and about 2.5 in the front. Toyota TRD Pro Matte Black Wheels with BFG 275-70/17 tires. Minor rubbing on full lock with the mudflaps. Will remove them soon.

This is the look I want, I am trying to interpret the lift in the heading. I am assuming:
5100 all around
OME springs 885 front and 895 rear?

Can I get the same look from:
5100 all around
OME 884 Front (my v6 vs his v8)
Toytech Superflex Rear (dont want stiffness of 40% increased spring rate)

OME 885 FRONT
TOY TECH SUPERFLEX HD REAR
BILSTEIN 5100'S
LIGHT RACING UCA
PRO COMP PHASER 17X9 W/ -6 BACKSPACING
285/70/17 BFG KO2

If the specs at the top for your lift are correct, how are you fitting 285 KO2s? Are you also running spacers or something else? This seems like barely a 3/2 lift. I think the 285's are 32.7/11.5. Is the offset and UCA the difference? Did you body chop?

Hey Guys,

Got a quick question, if I get all bilstein 5100 and set the front 1.75. paired with moog fj springs front and 5th gen rear springs with a 1.5 inch spacer will that level out?

Sorry noobie here. Kinda on a budget here since the 5th gen springs were given to me.

I suggest reading the 4th gen suspension page. But with that set up you'll still have front rake and it's not recommended to adjust the shocks when using coils to add lift.

I would say go for that lift setup you just mentioned with 884 and Superflex. That’ll give you a perfect rake in my opinion with a 1”-1.5” coil spacer on rear driver side to compensate for lean. I’m doing the T12 springs in back for a little less rake with 884 up front. Superflex is ~2” and T12 is ~1.5”

thanks for chiming in...I'm still debating which setup and the almost $100 in shipping at wheelersoffroad for T1/T12 and 5100's is a bit of a problem for me.

Those are 255/80/17 cooper st maxx tires. It rides well for a truck. My previous vehicle was a Lexus LS430 so I may be a bit used to a plush ride. It’s not too stiff or harsh and I just did a 1,000 mile road trip on it with no complaints other than needing to get uca
