Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

Wow clean set up! I think I’m going to keep my stock 17’s (same as yours) and do the lift/tires on my galactic gray mica. You inspired me to stay with the OEM look bc I cannot find a aftermarket wheel that I like or will look good in a year or 2.

IMHO, the 5th gen 17x7.5 inch 7 spoke wheels with the black background look great on 4th gens. I bought mine as new takeoffs from a wheel store on eBay for only ~$110 each. If your 4R is Galactic gray, you may prefer the 7 spoke wheels with the gray (gun metal?) background. My 4R is Stratosphere Mica, so I went with the black background.

I also have a set of the 17x7 inch 6 spoke 5th gen rims, but they don’t look as good as the 7 spoke wheels. They look very stock to me, nothing fancy. I think it’s because they are all one color, like the stock 4th gen 5 spoke wheels.

My 7 spoke wheels also have 33” (255/80r17) Toyo AT2 tires on them, and the 6 spoke wheels have 32” (255/75r17) Yokohama G015 tires on them.

One of my kids told me the 4th and 5th gens look very similar to him, so maybe that’s why the 5th gen rims look like they belong on a 4th gen.

I went with the original wheels mainly because I'd already spent so much I couldn't justify new wheels too, but I agree. I ended up liking the look!

Thanks for bringing these up! I always thought they were a special edition trd wheels, hard to get, hard to find, if you have the link for ref I would deff swap them up down the road! They are a very cool oem wheel.

Yes I am ballin on a budget here too! Management (my wifey) didn’t like when I said I was ‘building a 4runner’ :)
Part of the budget is paying for installation unfortunately. Unless some one in FL can help Me install lol help a bro out!

The seller on ebay that I bought two sets of wheels for my 4Runner from is “alanswheels”, a wheel shop in SC. You can buy from them directly, or through ebay. I googled “Alan’s Wheels” and got tons of matches - address, phone number, facebook page, yelp reviews, etc.

(I am not affiliated with them in any way, other than being a satisfied customer.)

Oh, I guess I forgot to post here after I did a thing.

Here ya go:

I'm finally in the cool kids steel bumper crew! :horn:

This thing is sick. I have an 06 White SE v8 as well.

Triple C Chop Shop does your work correct?

4.56 Nitro Gears and full master rebuild kits w/solid pinion spacers - everything from ECGS. Now for the break in - longest 500 miles of my life!

Curious, was the truck being sluggish with the 285/wheel combo?

That's what I was planning on next but didn't necessarily want to re-gear yet.

Thanks man!

Yeah Chris helped me out with the actual gearing part, I dropped and installed rear while he did the front.

295* but yeah. It wasn't terrible with the V8 (definitely still drivable), but it did tend to lug and hunt gears on grades/hills and such - no longer does this. My stock-like acceleration (actually better than stock now) is back which is nice. The transmission no longer hunts for gears and the whole driveline is less stressed now, which is nice.

It's not absolutely necessary but something you should consider down the line as your tire size/weight increases.

Nothing crazy here just me being happy it's finally done. Eibach pro truck lift kit set on recommended bottom notch. Wheelers quarter inch spacer put on drivers front side. Brand New Toyo open country at2's. No aftermarket UCA/LCA or sway bar end links needed nor body mount or mudflap removed. No rubbing at full lock in either direction. Happy boy here.

Forgive me if this has already been posted... But why is it recommended at the bottom notch and how much of a lift does this give? I've been looking at that lift kit for a year now and was finally about to pull the trigger.

So I didn't take any measurements before or after so lift wise I'm not 100% sure. I think it advertised 2ish" in front and 1" in the rear. And just by looking at it that's probably exactly what I got. I do believe bottom notch is recommended because the springs are around the same size/rate as factory or that's the notch they recommend for the specific springs that come with the kit. I would think the shocks have those other notches for when/if you replace those springs for ones that are larger so it can accommodate. I love this kit. I think it's perfect for anyone who wants a levelled daily driver and someone like me who wants to do get this to be a camping truck. I know I won't be going rock climbing so icons and kings and such don't apply to me. It's a smooth clean ride, and it's eibach. I picked this over emu cuz I've read their springs can rust and I'm in Ohio. Let me know if you have any more questions. Hope this helps.

I don't know what you're working with but if you've got the time and someone else to lend a pair of hands, it's really not that hard. There's some fantastic YouTube videos that walk through every bolt and every step involved. We did it in my garage with basic equipment. Jack stands, impact drill, hammer... I borrowed a torque wrench from OReilly with their free rental program, and a spring compressor to help with getting the rear springs in. I was intimidated to try, but I'm glad I did. I learned a ton! And....You could use that money for something else on the truck!

You don't need a spring compressor for the rear. Take off the shock on the side you're gonna install and use the stock jack to push the axle down. More than enough room. Then use the same jack to ease the axle back up to install the shock.

I'm sure you are right about that. That's what I saw on the video I watched too. I was probably over cautious because I was concerned about the rear brake line even after loosening it.

2006 Limited V8

Lift is approx 3" front, 2" rear.
Front: Toytect/Eibach Springs, Bilstien 5100s set on the second level (one up from the bottomr)
Rear: Icon 2" Lift Springs, Bilstien 5100s

*I want to go 3" in the rear and go up another notch on the front, will also get new UCAs to get alignment in to spec.

Tires are Sumitomo AT 285/70/17, the fronts rub in the fender liners when turning in reverse (not really when in drive, though...). The rears occasional rub on large bumps. I've been VERY happy with the tires. Minimal road noise, considering they're all-terrains, and have had great grip so far.

Nice rake now, it'll probably drop a bit once it settles (and I get my rear bumper/carrier done).

What suspension setup is this? looks killer

Thanks man!

Dobinsons C59-352 springs/IMS59-50574 struts (5th gen w/the bottom bushings changed) front, C59-701V springs/IMS59-50575 shocks rear.

Should be sitting around 3" front and rear (rear might be a tad higher than intended since it's unloaded right now).

Looks great man, need to do the same. My 2" icon springs aren't cutting it with any added amount of weight because of my hitch tire carrier.

I'm diggin' the new rake! My old 1.5" springs def weren't gonna cut it, so I used it as an excuse for long travel rear...LOL

Every justification for mods is an excuse...... As long as you're satisfied with the outcome, who cares! Lol

Spacers Lift for my 09' SR5

Now I can post on this thread! :naughty:

A 'custom' lift, 2 inches front, and 1.5 inches rear.
We can't find proper lift kits where I live (only Old Man Emu, but it's out of my reach right now).
With the tank full of gas (as in the pictures below) right side is about 0.4~0.5 inches taller.

First pic is stock (the day I bought it).
Overall I'm pretty happy with the results, I think it looks way better with the lift :bravo:

Next: BFGoodrich tires...
