2005 V8 SE w/ XREAS with 105k- Everything stock mechanically.

This a group of friends and their trucks are interested in setting up a trip to Rausch Creek Offroad park in PA, which I am sure many of you are very experienced in.

All 10 of us and our trucks have never been there. Many of us have never done anything like it before. All we have is the beach here on Long island. All different makes and models. With different levels of modifications done, geared towards off roading.

Before I go there and waste my time with a basically stock 4runner on goodyear triple tread tires. On a budget I was looking to give it a little bit of an off-road performance boost. A little more clearance and a little more grip.

I have searched and found many older threads that have helped me with my research however, im looking for fresh thought on these topics.

Things really haven't changed over the years.. But I am willing to bet your 05 shocks are pretty beat and you would be better served by installing the bilstein 5100 shocks set at 2.5" rather than putting spacers on beat front shocks. In the rear use the daystar 1.5" spring spacer or FJ springs with 5100's.

Is there a specific FJ spring to look for my specific truck. Id like to order them new off rockauto.com if I decide to go that route. Thanks

and exact part number for 5100's and spacer would be helpful too. Buying the right part the first time without guessing takes some stress out.

you can get them from Rock auto, like 38 bucks for both MOOG's for the rear springs, it crosses with stock P/N.
Most guys run 5100's here. I like the pre built Rancho lift set up. out of the box and install with new spring. New springs help when these things are over a 100k.

cant comment on the tires but many people have used that Ultimate suspension kit from Toytec and it's a very good option.

without spidertrax you are more than likely going to hit the upper control arms with the sidewall of the tire, especially if you upsize. The largest size that people go with at 3" of lift is usually a 285/70/17, or 32.8" tire.

Yeah pretty much what [MENTION=86678]ebg18t[/MENTION] said if your planning on doing even light to moderate wheeling i would even bother with spacers! I'd do either 5100's with FJ springs and a spacers in the rear or the toytec kit as others mentioned there both good options. Do it once and be done with it ,, that's what others told me in the beginning and i didn't listen and here i am not even 6 months later doing a full suspension..:frusty: Basically do it right or do it twice :thumb3:

By the way your going to love it down there, I just got back from my second RC trip this past weekend and it's awesome! Soo mcuh wheeling to do down there and all levels of difficulty ! I'm probably going to head to again for the FJ coal miners event July 16th - 19th

I ran General Grabber A/T2's 265/70/17 for a week after toytec ultimate lift. Too small for me but with stock wheels cleared the UCA, maybe a 1/2" space. Heres some pics with those tires and Toytec Ultimate lift installed.

Not bad, but I agree bigger tires would look better. How do you like the toytec ultimate lift? Ride on street/offroad/handleing? Did you install it or have it done? If you had it done and dont mind me asking, how much did it run you for install?
If you did it, how long did it take you?

Sorry for the question blitz but if im going to go balls deep into this truck at 105k miles I need to know im doing it exactly right. And I appreciate the patience.

No problem, better off doing it right the first time! I've had it about a month now and the ride is awesome, so much better than stock, especially because at 107k my suspension was already sagging pretty bad. Off road its great, I received bilstein 5125 instead of 5100's because at the time there was a shortage on 5100 rears. Actually kinda glad it worked out that way because I get great flex with the 5125's. On the road its a little stiff but not uncomfortably so. I actually had it done since I've never worked on suspensions myself, paid $300 and took the guy and a helper about three hours? I definitely reccomend the Ultimate, for the price you can't beat it!

How do you like those tires? My buddy is in the process of lifting his 07 chevy tahoe and putting those in 35" on there coming from the terra grapplers. so curious to know how you like em.
You think your size with that tire would fit stock wheels with spidertrax and stock control arms? Nitto says they are 33.15x11.81

I love the look of them, they're great offroad, the noise on the road isn't terrible compared to other mudders I've heard, they're also really smooth. I'm not sure you could squeeze them with spidertrax but I'm sure someone on here will have better experience than me with that. My wheels are 9" wide and have 4.75 backspace and -6 offset and they clear the uca by quite a good bit.

I figured there was a decent offset.. I dunno if i can swing a lift, tires and wheels. So i gotta figure out the tallest and widest tire I can fit on stock wheels with or without spidertrax and which ones, with stock control arms.. on the 3inch ultimate lift. lol

I know what you mean I still have a huge hole in my wallet lol, another option for 33" tires is 255/80/17 they're like 33x10 if I'm not mistaken, only certain brands make them, I know BFGoodrich and Cooper both make a "skinny" 33, the cooper is an AT and the BFGoodrich is an MT
