If you are getting tires, skip the spacers and just get wheels with the proper offset so you dont need spacers. You can get a set of 17X8 or 17X9 inch wheels for $400.. probably less than what you woudl pay for fj wheels anyway.

The spacers are $200 and you can probably sell you old wheels and tires for that, to keep your money out of pocket similar.

what is the offset that im looking for to avoid using spacers? for a 17x8 and a 17x9

yeahh, honestly the more I read and research the more that becomes clear to me. I call it the expensive truth. lol


So in the 285/70/17 size what tires do you recommend? Any feedback from anyone on the mickey ATZ p3's... I know its a fairly new tire but there isnt much out there on it. I saw a few sets on different vehicles in person and loved the way the look. SO much better in person then in pictures..

I'd consider 275 if I were you. A lot less trimming required and no body mount chop. Same look and performance. I couldn't get my truck stuck if I tried.

Toytec Boss suspension with Superflex HD coils.. Any last suggestions or Opinions?

Then Im on the hunt for 13 or 14 FJ wheels..

And tires in 285/70/17

My wheels are 17x9 -6 offset 4.75 backspace, with nitto trail grapplers in 285 they clear UCA's fine and I didn't need to do the body mount chop

Unless you are going to be carrying a lot of weight all the time there is no reason to get the HD rear springs.

How much off road will you be doing to need the more aggressive tires you mentioned? Most regular AT's do a decent job off road and provide a much better day-to-day livability.

Exactly what I was thinking about the springs, they'll be really stiff without a bunch of weight back there

I figured for the small difference in money more capability would be better? I do carry a good amount of stuff in the back but no where near 400lbs.. Are the superflex coil it comes with much stiffer/rated heavier then the stock springs?

Are standard 5100's good for the rear or is the upgrade to 5160 with reservoirs worth it?

&.. without spacers or control arms.. I cannot fit 285/70/17 or 33x11.5x17 tires on my stock rims correct?

I have the toytec superflex and they're definitely stiffer than stock, but not unbearable, I imagine the HD will be REALLY stiff lol. I've never seen the reservoir ones but I have bilstein 5125 in the rear and they're excellent, and no not with stock unless you run spacers.

Yeah man your gonna be running really stiff in the rear with out a bumper or cargo drawers and a lot of gear etc

The 5100's should be fine, the remote resi's will just keep the oil in the shock cooler so basically they won't heat as much when your running them but it's like your gonna be doing hi speed stuff and running dunes in the desert so i would think the 5100's would be more than good for east coast wheeling and trail riding which you never really go over 10mph

I'm not sure about tire i'm sure somebody else will be able to answer that, but i think with wheel spacers you should be good. But if your going to go up to 3" in the front you may want to look into aftermarket UCA's

Deff not going to run spacers...so ill just wait until I can do rims and tires together..

you have convinced me out of HD coils.. probably unnessesary..

No highspeed stuff for me.. Like you said just northeast wheeling occasionally.. unless of course after the trip to Rausch I get addicted and just move to PA and apply for a job there. lol

You're better off waiting and getting wheels you really want and tires together instead of compromising now and spending again in the future anyway for wheels

Are the wheels from a 2005 toyota tundra v8, The same offset or backspace as the FJ wheels, where it allows you to fit bigger tires without wheel spacers?

I run 18X9 +25 with 265/65/18s and have 1/2" clearance of the front upper control arm. anything from there on out you are fine if you want a wider stance.
