Lift installed: Pics inside

So im kinda new to the forum and i want to ask a few quick questions if you guys dont mind. I was looking at all the 3rd gen lift info and i am a little confused. I love the look of this 4runner its the look i am goign to go for when i lift mine i am just doing a little research befor ei decide to pull the trigger. I am thinking of going the OME way but when i look at the set up that econ did it looked to me like he did the 881 2.5" lift coil for the front and 906 2" lift coil in the rear. Am i reading this right or am i missing something, wouldnt that make the front higher then the back. ???. could someone please explain. Do i need to do a diff drop for this setup? Also what is the best price around for this setup i found what i beleve to be it on a website for $699 +$100 to build the fronts. Thanks for all your help in advance.

I read the same thing about the 881's, but i don't really think 2.5" is accurate. Many people include a top out spacer with that particular coil, and I think that would be closer to 2.5". I think the 881's are slightly less than 2" once they've settled a bit. I don't have any negative rake. It is just barely raked from back to front. I really like it. In fact, the stance couldn't look better, IMHO. I don't have the diff drop, but I'm watching the CV's like a hawk. There is some debate about this. Toytech told me I wouldn't need it, but some have said that they still do. I don't think I'll end up getting it, but I may replace the boots on my CV"s sometime in the future if there is a problem. www.trdparts4u.com has the lowest price on my particular setup. $716 I believe. However, they are not preassembled, and don't offer the service.

PM me too, please! :thumb3:

Does the rear sag as easily as the stock springs?

PM Sent.

I haven't had a ton of weight in the back yet, but I am certain it will not sag as bad. I've stood on the back, and it didn't sag all that much. Without knowing how much weight you intend on putting in the back, I'd say this will hold up great.

Yeah, econhonda is right about the 881s. With the top spacers, you'll get 2.5-3", but without it ~1.5-2". No spacers and it should sit level with 906s, with spacers it should sit level with 890s.

Get the diff drop, it's only $25. Don't be surprised if your stock CVs leak and tear with or w/o the diff drop though. The stock axles just don't usually like the new angle after so many years of being at stock height.

thank you guys for the info that help clarify it a ton for me. Econ what tires and rims are those they look stock but i just wanted to check. Also can you post more pics please

I'd like to know tires and size too. At 150k miles my wife's '01 3rd gen is about to (finally) get a bit of a build.

Interestingly, we've been looking at newer SUVs and just can't see spending $35k for another one when we've loved this one since mile 4. So it's a gas-sipper for the day to day stuff and this is going to become a real truck.

Your setup looks fantastic (read: just the right height for me, who doesn't do much more wheeling than rough dirt fire roads). I'm sure it feels stiffer than whatever washed-out suspension was on there, but does it handle better / crisper / more settled on-road too? These days we're getting tired of everything we hit being a squish and shimmying through the entire truck...

Tires are treadwright guard dogs - 265/75/16's (retreaded tires). I was very skeptical at first, but after months (yes, months) of research, I was sold. I read countless reviews on Jeep, Dodge, 4X4 forums, and never once found a firsthand story of failure of one of these tires. I read about wheeling expeditions, heavy towing, and daily driving that all saw great performance out of these tires. As we all well may see later in this thread, there are definitely those who won't go near them. That's fine. I will. So far, they balanced great, they ride great, and the price is unbeatable. $427 shipped to my door. I usually am a "you get what you pay for" kind of guy, but I do believe this is one of the rare exceptions.

That said, the lift performs very well on road. I definitely feel more stability over bumps, but it's not as "plush" as I imagined it would be. It's just stirdy. Firm.

Regarding the Guard Dogs (I've heard great things about them also)how loud are they and which model did you get? Love the looks of your Yota.

They are Load Range D's. I specifically requested Goodyear MTR sidewalls. They are noisier than my old cooper all terrains, but not that bad. They produce a high pitch sound at speed that isn't too noticeable, and not at all distracting or annoying. It is quieter than I was expecting.

Those are the exact tires I want to replace my BFG Mud Terrains with when they are done. However, I think I still have 40,000 miles of wear left in the BFG's....so it might be a while. lol

Glad to hear you like the them...I'm just as sold as you on Treadwright at this point. :thumb3:

Those BFG Muds are sweet tires and look great on your 4runner, but why not sell them off for $600-800 if they've got that much tread left and spend half that on a set of these? $400 extra to save or spend on some nice lights, sliders, or a bunch of other mods. Just a thought.... My Coopers had 20% left and I sold those for $150 so the new tires really only ended up costing $275. I could have probably charged around $250 judging by all the interest I got.

I thought I'd post some updated pictures as I have changed a few things around. I ended up giving in and took off the running boards. I like it. The wife does not. I also popped some Hella Optilux Yellow fog lights in when one of my bulbs burned out. Some 1.25" All Pro wheel spacers also found their way on to my 4runner this weekend. What do you think?

Looks great man! I'm in need of a new bumper on my rig, and thinking of upgrading to the 99+ style, just so I can run those OEM fogs!

The spacers do a great job to bring the stock wheels out!

Econ,

rig is looking sweet, Im gonna warn ya though, the Running boards are worth money right now, even up to half or more of what you might spend on sliders.

Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts

67" 84-88 Xtra-Cab, Pair, $140, 120002-1-K
and get the
6 Leg Kit, $19, 120007-1-K

thats 160$

I think if you listed your running boards on Craigs you could probably sell them for about 100$ in good condition.

First time you crack those things on a rock they arent worth half that.

Just a thought. Maybe a little explanation of that to the wife and the "investment" of Rock sliders seems a bit more attainable doesnt it?! :thumb3:

Hey man,
Can you post a close up on your CV axles? I wanna see what the angle looks like with the ~2" lift.
In the pics I see so far, they look pretty much flat, can you confirm that?

Looks awesome man! I'm gonna do the same lift to mine sometime this spring hopefully, glad to know someone else has done and how it looks. Was gonna do a 3 inch lift but realized the 881/906 is more practical for me, and I'm more convinced after seeing how yours turned out.

Where are you located? When I upgrade to the ARB maybe we could work out a deal for my 2000 oem bumper with fogs....
