Lifted on King Coilovers - How to obtain more, safely?

The driver Coilover which I adjusted shows 1 3/4" of thread. Passenger is 1 1/4"

Not able to take detailed measurements at the moment but I can verify that my driver's side coil doesn't even have a full 1.5" of thread showing...guess I am within the acceptable limits?



As I mentioned in a previous post, I think my signature photo is deceiving some of the other users commenting here and I don't think any of them have revisited the thread since I posted images of all the components and their angles.

I can't comment on that because they could be different. I think icon uses short Coilover bodies.

Im looking at my front suspension from my trip and I'm over dropping. My total chaos uniball misalignment has knocked the powdercoat off the arm. I'm not running the front sway bar. Fun . Lol

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Kings and how much preload I need to add to them to clear 285s. I bought a set of kings last week. But I have to ask.... why are so many of you setting the preload so gnarly? In return your vehicle must ride like shit(super stiff)..... just curious.

If you add weight, the suspension will sag if you don't upgrade the springs either, so people compensate by messing with the preload.

Others, just want a 3 inch lift.

Its no different than any other manufacture of coilovers.

My ride quality is still very good.

For my setup, I just ordered a higher coil rate from KING and left it at the lowest setting. Matched the lifted rear perfectly.

I'm pretty sure most of us are using 6 or 8 threads showing at the most. The photo above is too much preload, and the ride would suffer.

Depending on the wheel you use and the particular tire, you may still have to do some minor trimming, regardless on how much preload you have. I had to push my fender liner forward and I reshaped the inside of my mudflaps with a heat gun. Easy.

Thanks for the input. I adjusted my Kings over the weekend and added 1"(5 turns) to the stock setting. These coilovers will level the 4runner at stock setting so adding 1" should be perfect. Roughly 1/2" of threads showing. i will be installing in the next couple weeks. i added 1 extra turn to the driver side as i've read that guys have been doing so to keep it level side to side.

I have 285 winter tires on now, I just wore some 265 KO2s out, and in the next few weeks, I'll be swapping out to either some 255 coopers or 285 falkens.

theres a company that makes shims I've seen people use to get a lil extra height without having to crank the coils. project_kitt4r on ig used em on his icons and prolly has the highest lifted icon kit ive seen so far and he said it rides fine still

2 1/2" in the front, and 2" springs in the rear.

This is how she sits now. Post #52 shows the driver side shock threads, looks like 5 or 6.
