Liftgate window

How many of us chose the 4Runner over other SUV's because of the roll down liftgate window? I know having the liftgate window that rolls down was a major feature for me when choosing my 5th gen (as it was for me when I bought my 4th gen). The dogs love it! :frog:

I did not buy my 4runner because of the roll down rear window but I loved it in my 3rd generation vehicle and my dog loved it as well. Problem is I seem to be very sensitive to carbon monoxide. No kidding, a while back everytime I would get into my daughter's car and ride with her I would feel nauseated within 3 minutes. No one else felt this way but me but I had her exhaust checked out nonetheless. Turns out there was a very small exhaust leak. Once fixed I no longer felt ill when riding with her. Well, although I did not experience this particular exhaust problem for unkown reasons with the 3rd gen, each time I roll down the rear window in my 5th gen, even slightly, I get that same sickening, nauseous feeling after 2 or 3 minutes. I've seen the other thread in this forum regarding this problem and I've tried opening some of the other windows, etc but it doesn't seem to help much. So really, for me, unless my TE is stationary, I, or rather my shepherd does not reap the benefits of driving with rear window open but, he seems to be happy hanging his big head out the side window!

I couldn't say it was the main selling point, but I needed rear glass to open one way or another to haul long stuff. I like the liftgate window a lot though, when I have sunroof and back window open it feels like a convertible : )

I do think it's great, and am happy to have it after not being able to open the glass on my Xterra....

but, as far as buying the 4runner for the window itself, there was no other SUV really similar enough to it to make me buy it for just that. It's nice, but hardly a huge selling point for me.

Not the top selling point for me either, but I traded my old tacoma for my 4runner, so it's nice to have that extra versatility. I've already used it to haul crown molding and a 7 ft tree. I also hauled a bunch of top soil/ mulch last weekend and it's nice to put the window down just for ventilation when you've got smelly stuff in the back.

It was a factor for me, but not the deciding factor. I definitely wanted a rear window that opened. My old Exploder had a hinged lift-up window. The roll-down window of the 4R is much more useful.

I've noticed that most CUVs, like minivans, do not have openable rear windows. (I'm not sure if "openable" is a real word, but it is now).

I also have this sensitivity to the fumes. Every time I ride shotgun with someone and they have their vents open, I get overwhelmed by the exhaust from cars in front of us. But the driver is not affected at all. I'm sure you can relate. :)

Question: do you still get the fumes at highway speeds? I've never had a 4runner before but one of the features that appeals to me is the ability to open the back window and the front vents at highway speeds to keep air moving inside the truck. Certainly less drag than opening side windows.

fumes...

wow I'm surprised that quite a few ppl have a sensitivity to the fumes... it doesn't bother me at all, I'm a Army mechanic and i love the smell of diesel running in the morning. Back to the topic, I didn't buy the Runner for the back window but I love it.

It was one of the features that pushed me toward the 4runner.

I company vehicle, ford exp., had a pop up rear window and that made things so much easier for packing, unpacking on big trips or full loads. I knew i wanted something similar.

I have used it, but not often (only owned a new 2011 for 2 months)

I did not even realize the window moved until after I purchased the rig! It now reminds me of my parents 1970's Ford Country Squire Station wagon which had the same option. It should, however, come in handy someday.
