Possible but expensive. You would need a Hilux Surf doner truck. I've seen some 5VZ Surf's with manual+multi mode. Wiring would be a different story that I have no comment on but it should be easier since you would have the correct 4WD ECU to go with the R150.

Yeah, the surfs had them as early as 96, the problem with the Surfs is that last i checked, the V6 gas wasn't that common, and the manual wasn't very common as well, so finding one won't be easy.

I don't think that was multi-mode. That was more like the push-button/lever type found in 96-98 Limited models. I could be wrong though.

oh lame, yeah I saw the T-case shifter in my friends 03 Taco and thought it was multimode.

I'm still considering giving this a try. What exactly is tied into the transmission wiring that would let the transfer case/add, etc know that it isn't there anymore? Does all the wiring for the ADD, cruise control, and transfer case tie into the transmission?

Honestly, thinking back to my 5 speed swap, it doesnt tie into the transmission, just the start circuit, brake lights and cruise control. However mine wasnt wth multimode, bit idk what the big difference wiring wise, between the multi mode and basic case.

What is so special about push buttion 4wd ? Doesn't it have it's downs vs a regular lever 4wd?

All the wiring is separate. Add and transfer case are together. Cruise is separate but both systems pull a speed signal off the ecu.
