Oh and i forgot, "Yes" the truck shuts off the minute you get into the truck. There are many reasons for this that i have heard so i wont go into here. I dont use it enough yet for it to be an issue but that might change.

Go to Mayfield Toyota and ask for "Prash" do the work on the truck, he is their lead tech and the only one i would trust to touch my truck. I gave him the heads up he might be seeing more people.

Hey Carlosis300 - thanks for the update. I have a Rav4 limited and this is the only good thread I could find after scouring the web for hours. I'd expect most of the Toyota Smart Key systems are similar.

If I understand you correctly - your remote start works as follows:

1. Remote start using aftermarket FOB.
2. Touch handle to unlock vehicle normally with factory FOB in pocket.
3. Vehicle shuts off as soon as door is unlocked.
4. Enter vehicle and re-start with push-button.

So the only need for the aftermarket FOB is to remotely START the vehicle. And if you don't need to remote start, everything else works the same as from factory? Is that correct?

Sorry for the delayed response, i have been away for a bit.

Yes RavenousOne, you are exactly right I only need the compustar fob when I want to autostart the vehicle or if I have the truck in a shady area and want to know when someone is messing with it.

So far everything is working well, I need to adjust the sensitivity for the shock as it is a bit too sensitive if I leave her on the street. For everyone's knowledge when they install your system make sure the make the shock adjustment dial easily accessible from under the steering column. When they installed it the first time it was so messy under there i could not find anything. "Prash" at Mayfield had to reinstall the whole thing... good guys are hard to come by these days...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but as the temperature drops, the more I am considering putting in a remote start. How much are these costing everyone? Just got a quote from my local Toyota dealer for an AstroStart Smart Start - $1150!!! Will do both my 4Runner and Tacoma for $2000. Seems steep to me!

Seems way too steep. I got a quote for $650 installed when I got my new rig today. I don't think anything more than the $529 msrp as suggested by Toyota is worth it. According to the website: "It's fully integrated into your factory security/keyless entry system, so there's no need for an additional remote control key fob."

The $1150 was not for the factory remote start - its for a remote start plus smart start which allows your iphone/bbery/android to start your vehicle - as long as there is cell service you have "range". The one I am getting is Astrostart (Directed Electronics). I just put one in my 09 Tacoma and love it, came to about $900 all in. Still steep, but from what I understand, way better than the factory one.

Got it installed in my 4Runner Limited at my Toyota dealer today - $900. The smart key system for keyless lock/unlock still works the same as previously. No need at all for me to carry the new fob - use our iphones to start it, keep the factory fob to enter/exit.

Curious to see if your touch handles work and if when you press the brake the 4Runner shuts off. There has to be a bypass........otherwise you'll be replacing your starter in half the time others would have too.

They finished the install today. It took a little longer then expected and they had to keep it overnight. The reason was the push button cars are more difficult.

Anyway, everything works pretty good with a couple of minor issues I hope to get fixed eventually.

If you don't hit unlock on the remote before getting in, the antenna light for the remote start still blinks blue until you start driving. If you hit unlock it stops blinking right away. Not a big deal to me.

The door touch features still work, but when you open the door it shuts the vehicle off. I talked with the tech guy and he said it was an issue with the "takeover" and that there wasn't one available for my car yet. I told him I have seen reports on the internet of people with the same car getting it to work. Anyway, he said if I find a website or instructions I can bring it back in and he can do it.

So I am fairly happy with everything especially for the $550 price. I just need to look into how to get the takeover to work. Anyone have any experience with this issue?

Also I just played with it a little more by remote starting it when I was already in the vehicle, and the car turns off when you hit the break. Also if you try to press the push to start button it turns the car off as well. Also, the trunk release doesn't work (as expected).

I figured that you'd get the same answer everyone else did......in short, you can't have your cake and eat it too it appears with the remote start system which is still the only reason I haven't purchased one for my 4R LTD. Good luck finding a bypass for the shutoff feature and keep us updated if you figure it out.

Compustart with drone mobile

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay but it actually took this long to get my Compustar working the way it should. My dealer probably hates me but it is sad when customers have to do all the leg work for their own vehicles.

So, after 5 trips in total, 3 to the original dealership in Calgary and 2 trip to the dealership in Edmonton, my truck is finally working properly. If i have any advice to give anyone is that typically, if there is a problem after they install the system then it is usually just a programming issue not a wiring issue.

Just so everyone here knows I put in a 2 way alarm / autostart Compustar system in a limited 2011 T4R. I only take my Compustar remote with me when I want or need to autostart my truck. otherwise my factory fob sits in my pockets now and never leaves. the truck goes through one more unlock sequence of lights and relays then with just the factory system but that's it. The smart touch system work great with it now so i think i will have them turn the beep etc to "off" so i don't have to hear it at all.

Bottom line is i had to go the the smartest tech to get it programmed right and for me that meant another dealership that was owned the the same group. Sad in some regards.

I just had a Compustart 1way with drone mobile installed in my 4Runner Limited at Countryhills Toyota. Now my factory key FOB lock/unlock the doors but once I open the door using factory FOB alarm goes off and if the car is running it kills the engine.
Do you mind giving me the dealer's name in Calgary who finally fixed your issues?
Also how much they charge you for the remote starter installation?

I apologize for digging up such an old thread but I was wondering if anybody had any updates or if there happens to be anyone else who happened to successfully install a Viper SmartStart system in their Limited?

I really need the range of being able to use my cellphone to start it as I park incredibly far away at work. I also do not want to carry around another fob.

Can you elaborate a little further on your setup? Does the smart key still work to unlock the door by touching the handle? Or if you remote start it with your cell do you need to unlock it with you cell also? Does the engine turn off when you open the door?

If you wouldn't mind could you post an update if you end up getting the Drone Mobile?

I was looking into it as well. From the researching I have been doing the Viper SmartStart has not been getting very good reviews, a lot of connection issues or issues with the Viper servers. It cannot be good if Viper has not bothered to update their app on Google or iTunes since December 2012. Most smartphone apps update almost monthly.

The reasons mentioned above are causing me to look for alternatives to the Viper system. I do like that Drone Mobile uses the Verizon network as my phone is through Verizon as well.

the warden has a compustar prime series 2-way 9000 remote starton her 12 DC Tacoma. havent had any issues with it, has about 500-1000k ft actual range with obstructions like buildings. with her situation, she had to remote start it inside the store back door (metal) and its about 500 ft. and it would start.

only issue i have is the remote fob cant keep time, but that is the only issue.

i have made a picture of inside the mall back door of where she worked and the distance to where she parked marked by the red arrows.
