Limited vs trail

Thanks, so I'm guessing the limited should be more than enoguh for moderate off roading while the trail w/ KDSS would be more for someone who wanted to go do some hardcore rock climbing? I just wanna be able to get around in with 1-2 ft of snow on the ground or moderately rough unpaved roads.

A Highlander will be more than enough for that.

1-2 feet of snow on the ground or 6" on the road? I have driven through 18" of light snow. That was no problem for my 4th Gen, and KDSS wouldn't do a thing there. What lets you get through that much snow are two things: 1) snow consistency and 2) tires. In my case, it was very light, fluffy snow, and I had a good set of snow tires. If it was thick, wet, heavy snow and I had all season tires, I would have gotten stuck. After all, the truck only has about 8" of ground clearance. So, I really have to ask, when would you need to go through 1-2 feet of snow?

Unpaved roads are no problem for the 5th gen Limited or any 4th gen. If you really want to go rock hopping, then buy a TE, lift it, get bigger tires, etc.

You're going to have to spend some serious money to make any 4Runner a hardcore rock climber and you're going to have to change tires to go through 1-2 feet of snow.


Really confused why Toyota put the 4WD system they did in the 5th generation.
