Little Red Security Button?

I tried a search and only came across a post about an '06 but without any real information...

What is the little red security button for? I had an alarm added at the port so I'm guessing it's related to that. It looks like it's aftermarket though. Any idea of what is does when it's pushed in/out?

Thanks.

I did! I did! And nothing exploded, no machine guns popped out, no ejection seat, nothing... :dammit:

My Tacoma had a button too, it was black

PUSH IT!!!

If ya don't explode post a pic, no button in said red color in my Runner but then again I never saw the elastic strap in the glovie til a couple days ago

*edit* posting at the same time

It is similar but I don't think it lights up. It looks like it's solid red (plastic). Let me go snap a pic.

Quick cell pick... sorry, this thing is so big I cant get around it without opening my garage so I had to lean over from the passenger side. :D

This is probably the post you came across (contains pictures): http://www.toyota-4runner.org/251507-post92.html

Hmm.. so maybe it controls the port installed alarm. It would seem silly if that is a kill switch. I hope it doesn't turn it off when it's already going off. Guess I will have to play with it tomorrow. I like the ejection seat idea better though.

Thats very similar to my Tacoma alarm button the alarm was made by Pursuit, a sequence of pushes and ignition turns disables the alarm if your fob is dead. Dealer put the manual for mine in the glovie.

Thanks, I'll check to see if its in there somewhere. Hopefully I can figure how to disable the horn honk. Right now it honks and beeps each time I lock/unlock. :wtf:

It turns out to be a case of :rtfm: I found the little booklet tucked into the owners manual. Apparently it controls valet mode if you want to just give them the valet key and not the transmitter key. It says it does have an LED.

If you have the ignition on and press it in, the car is in valet mode and the LED light should stay lit.

Depressing it will turn off valet mode and turn off the LED.

Kind of weird... I'd rather just give the valet my transmitter keys and have him lock/arm the vehicle and also not risking him keying the paint around the keyhole. I did find instructions for disabling the lock/unlock horn honking so I'll play with that in the morning.

I got to play with this more this morning. I confirmed that it does light up.

To turn the horn honk on/off you start with the button depressed (off) and turn the ignition on then off. Then cycle the button 3 times (6 pushes total). That did it... so now when I lock/unlock I only get the pleasant factory beep instead of the multiple honks/beeps like an airing of Dave Chapel standup on broadcast TV.
