Looking at a 5th Gen-is it worth it?

Finally talked the husband into letting me look at a 5th Gen so I'm really excited!

The one I'm looking at is a 2010 fully loaded with 3rd row seating. They are asking $23,988 and it has 75k on it.

I'm pretty familiar with 3rd Gen pricing and specs but I'm just starting my research on these. Seems like all the other ones in the area are about $2,000 more with the same miles.

It looks pretty clean and the Car Fax is free of anything-one owner from TN.

Thanks for any help/suggestions. I'm looking at it tomorrow afternoon so I'm not sure how it drives yet.

All the 2010's in my area SE PA / NJ / DE are going for around 28k(ish) regardless of miles. Some a wee bit more some a little less but this seems to be the average.
My 2010 TE was 27K with 40K on the Odo.

I found a 2010 Trail Premium with 87k miles for $26k, so your deal sounds good, but I went ahead & bought a new one since the residual is so high.
Have you considered getting a base sr5? I think you can get those for around $31k if you don't mind 2wd. I had a 2004 2wd & it was great if you avoided mud & snow. Never got stuck once.

If you're buying 4Runner for a 3rd row seat just know it is tiny back there and only for very small children. I would consider something else in that is the case. I love my 2012 Limited 4Runner with leather; 3rd row not needed for me. If you're not going to use it off road ever I would look at something else. Not the greatest on gas compared to say Nissan Murano. I personally think most people are better off with a front wheel drive as they handle better in wet weather therefore safer.
LIMITED 4Runner is full time all wheel drive. Limited gets awesome traction in inclement weather and handles exceptionally well but will drink some gas.

Note: I personally don't like buying unless I can get a platinum warranty 0 deductible with any used vehicle;piece of mind. I'm not sure what they offer now but it used to be if the car had less than 70K you could buy a 3/4/or 5 years and/or up to 125K with Toyota, whichever came first. If you think you're going to buy that particular vehicle you can call other dealers for warranty price quote and maybe request the dealer to at least beat the warranty price by several hundred as part of the deal.

I purchased my vehicle from Bennett Toyota in PA. Drove from MA to PA to buy and was very pleased. Hope this helps.

If it's a 4WD, you can't sniff a 5th gen 4R in the Pacific NW for that price. No matter what the mileage or condition. In fact, I would be suspicious if I saw one priced that low.

If it's 2WD, well that's different. I have no idea what those go for.

It is a SR5 and is 4WD. We live in Northeast Ohio and I definitely need 4WD with all the snow we get. I drive mostly back roads to work-my first ever 4Runner was 2WD and I will never do that again.

We have a 2 year old and will most likely have another child, so I like the idea of the 3rd row seating just for that reason. I wouldn't say I need it but all the other 4Runners I've looked at are 3-4K more without the 3rd row.

I will be going there in a few hours to test drive it so we will see. I have a 1998 now so I will probably be selling that because I'm sure the trade in value they will offer will be crap.

Too funny! My husband is strictly a diesel truck man, which I owned one of those as well after my first Runner. As much as I loved the Cummins, I just wanted a Runner again. Finally got another one and now I need to upgrade!

I have a 3 and 5 year old, their car seats are monsters but we can still get one person between them if they are skinny, then someone climbs in the back. My wife is only 5'2" and she usually sits in the third row so we can carry two more adults. She says its fine but she wouldnt want to do it for a long road trip, its very helpful when my parents visit to not have to drive an extra car. I dont remember the cost difference new but i cant imagine it adds much cost used, i can see it being nice down the road if i carried a bunch of kids.

Yeah its my daddy mobile, i admit it, but no way i wanted to drive something bigger!

Similar, but different, my current ride is a 2010 Mazda5 (minivan) and the third row is very handy for a quick trip to eat when family is in town. I've looked at the 3-row 4Runners and it would be the same - like you describe.

Regarding the original post, I think I would try to buy a new 4Runner for around $35-37k before paying over $20k for one with 75k miles. If you can afford it, take advantage of that incredible resale value the 4Runners have.

ouch, 24k vs maybe 33-34k for a 2015 with less than 10-20 miles vs 75k miles?

now if the mileage was maybe 1/2 I would consider that, but that's just me.

I recently went from a '97 SR5 T4R to a 2011 SR5 T4R. I purchased it off Craigs List from a private party. It had ~40 K miles on it and was very well maintained. I paid $26 K. I live in eastern WA. Compared to everything else out there this was a great deal.

My needs for a vehicle are much different than yours. You stated that you have driven a diesel engined truck, so these comments may not mean all that much to you, but.... The jump from the '97 to the '11 is incredible! Much more useable room inside; much better interior layout. The interior is better insulated, so less road noise. The ergonomics are much better. Being in a mountainous area I really appreciate both the DAV and ATrac functions. Visibility out is very good. Interior lighting is better. It is like going from a Yugo to a Cadillac in many ways. The only down side is that externally it is much bigger. It took me a while to get used to that. I have found that the engine and transmission are much better. With the icy and snow covered roads around here, I like the fluidness of switching 4WD in and out so easily. All this adds up to more security on the road. This last fact should be important for the safety of your little one(s) in that 3rd row seat.

Have the underside checked thoroughly for rust and I don't mean asking the dealer if it's been checked. Have hubby get under there and look around.

Hence the full length roof rack! I also have a cargo box. But really its just for around town, when out of town guests are here its way easier to only take one car. The rack is when i want to go anywhere with my kids AND dog for more than an overnight.
