Well I have been trying to land a 2011 TE with NAV in Shoreline Blue or Magnetic Gray in Puget Sound Area for the last week. One dealer was able to get a Magnetic Gray in but I decided to hold out for the Shoreline Blue. Then the local dealer, after a lot of haggling came back and said they would do $500 over invoice and give me a decent amount on my trade, but they had to do a dealer trade for an allocated vehicle. I asked if I could still qualify for the Military Rebate in a month because that was the estimated time for it to come in, and they said yes. Then a another dealership in Eastern WA called, and said they had one in Shoreline Blue with Nav now , and then stated that the other dealer lied about being able to ensure the military rebate because you could not contract an allocated vehicle. I'd take their truck but they won't match the deal that I can get at the local dealer. Anyone know if it is true that a truck being built cannot be contracted?, Thanks again

If my TE hadn't been such a great price I almost wish it didn't come with the nav, so that I could install my own. The Toyota nav system is ok. but I wish that it had better maps. I have to constantly check directions against either my phone or handheld GPS. I live in a small town so that is most of my problem, but I still wish it was a little more reliable.
Have you tried the factory Nav in a City? I take a lot of road trips, so my main concern would be having a decent one that can work everywhere. I also don't have the time to do an install of a Nav on my own. The dealer wanted to charge me 1950 for an aftermarket install (Avic Z130) and I read it has the same software as the Factory Nav? Also I thought that an aftermarket Nav would be more likely to attract thieves since my next duty station is in a high crime area.
It works well in large cities, my problem has been navigating through small towns and between cities. The maps might actually better on the 2011 but I'm not sure. I just know that I used it to get between my last and current duty stations (Mississippi to Idaho), and it took us on some strange/long routes despite the GPS claiming they were the quick routes. Since that trip I usually run my Garmin backpacking GPS along side just so I don't get miss directed.
Do you mind sharing your great price? I am shopping for a TE w. Nav and the going price in Los Angeles is $500 over invoice. I know that prices are up overall for any Toyota, but I was curious as to what great prices people paid before the earthquake.
I bought a Prius last year for below invoice and now they sell for sticker.
I paid just over $36,000 in April of 2011 on a new 2010, so my purchase was made soon after the tsunami. The dealership had it marked at 42k and needed to move it. They hadn't been able to sell the TE because no one needed that much in way of off road capability so people would test drive it and settle on either LTD or SR5 models. I won out because it was an old 2010 model they needed to move.
Wow, that is a great price. Congratulations. I have yet to see a TE in a dealership. They are scarce so the price is up, at least that is my understanding. I would love to find a dealer who wants to move one quickly. I am looking at close to $39,400 for my dealer to get a TE with Nav. for me. $500 over invoice didn't sound too bad to me at first, but after seeing your price it's not looking so great anymore.
When I was looking for my TE, there was a wait list of 23 people so there was no negotiation and it took two weeks to even find one that was coming to TX. I jumped the line by giving them a larger sum of cash up front and then they had to haggle to get one that was headed to CA to fill my order. You're probably not going to be able to haggle over these like you can over a run of the mill version SR5 or Limited
Yeah, $500 over invoice really sounded OK to me at first given how few I see on the road...in fact I don't think I've ever seen a TE and I live in L.A.
New here and first post. Yes, the dealers seem to be in no hurry to deal on the '11 TEs. I'd have been happy as hell to pay inv. +$500. I'd found one (KDSS non-Nav), offered $36,500 and the sales guy declined my offer and thanked me for the phone call. Two days later it was sold. I had another dealer track one down and after it arrived I balked, thinking they'd come down at least $1500-$2000. They didn't so I said, 'screw it' and bought the damn thing. We had to move people out of the way to drive it off the lot in Scottsdale. I'm in a big population center though, so if I don't pay the price they'll find one of 2 million others who will.
In short, if you can find a TE for several hundred under MSRP, pay it or wait until who knows when. Also, your military rebate should be good no matter who or where you get your car so long as you finance with Toyota. The dealer just gets a check for $500 from them, so it's got to be independent of any sale pricing. Good luck finding what you're looking for man and we'll see you on the boards.
