Looking to get a remote start

Ok I've installed car audio for about 4 years, and used different types of alarms and I think there needs a little clarification.

Are all the same they are owned by Directed. There are others brands they own but I dont know a lot about those other brands and avoid them. I know installers that dont install other brands because of fail rates and not wanting to deal with the repairs.

If you need an installer when you get there I can help out shoot me a PM.

How much?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but how much would a typical DEI Alarm with remote start cost when including installation. Not looking for anything super fancy. Just trying toget an idea so I don't get ripped off. It would be on a 97 that has a factory alarm, if that matters

I got mine through a groupon for $156 installed. I actually just saw an amazon local (same as groupon) deal for an Avital remote start for $149 installed. Check those out for a pretty good deal.

I've been looking into this for some time. The technology today brings remote start alarms to a whole new level if you have a smart phone and about $400 to spare. Arctic Missouri mornings and sweltering summers make it look damn near a necessity, and the range is really incredible with that set up.

UPDATE

I purchased around a year ago Avitol remote start. Cost about $250 after installation. Uses factory remote and just press Lock 3 times to start. It works great, and was a cheap solution. Very satisfied with the purchase

Well I know this thread is old.. But Im sure other are interested in remote start 2way.

I got a Avital 5303 Works fine however the range is only about a few hundred feet. Make sure your installer does not use a RF virtual tach sensing and wire it into the tach. Or else your alarm will not put out enough crank time to get the motor going.. sometimes it takes 3 tries to crank. I may wire direct this weekend. I think its a overall good alarm.

However if I did not have a more expensive Viper 5704 i installed myself I would have thought the avital 5303 is great.

Viper was better in Range maybe 3 times the distance. I sometimes have to press the remote start a couple or a few times to get the Avital to confirm the car is starting.. With the viper it was 1 press and always start. never an issue.Viper also has additional ports to add feattures like motion detector and level sensor for plug and play.. The avital I guess you have to splice.. im not sure how.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Is there any such thing as a remote start that will allow me to retain the factory alarm system in my 99' Limited my guess is no?

All In one?

So for those that got a remote start for $250 or less. Did that include a new alarm to bypass the factory one? Or is that just the remote start feature with keyless entry? I don't really care to keep the factory alarm because I figure an aftermarket would be better anyways.

I've got the avital was about 275 installed, like popaw says is doesn't always start the first time, but then my truck likes 5 turns but it trys again in about 30 secs and works then. I can make it start from about 200 yrds between a couple 9 story bldgs. zigzagged in between. yeah included alarm, remote start, 2 remotes. 1 interesting feature for those of you up in the way cold, it can be set to fire up every 3 hrs for whatever amt of time you want. not sure if that's really usefull or it can be programmed (self) to start at a certain time each day, kind cool.
