Low profile XM (shark fin) antenna swap

Just need to unplug & then I just hit the ebay & finally matched it up , with plenty of help from previous posters here !

Just talked with Paul at Equipt. Apparently using an xm antenna mounted elsewhere isn't that easy either with how the Toyota stereo is setup.

Man I would think the Corolla or Camry would work ? Plug usually is same . Mine just because it's an 11' had the older style so for me it was 12' corolla one !

No luck on the dealer visit. Seems like the best option is to buy the $40 xm antenna and splice it into the connector on the back of the Toyota head unit.

Ok so the 2.2 K9 rack has been installed with the 40mm feet. I removed the shark fin and already purchased a Camry xm antenna to just plug the hole. Paul with Equipt believed the existing fin would fit and asked me to try it and sure enough...it fits with the oem fin with plenty of room to spare. Let me know if anybody has any questions.

Anybody with half a brain(parts dept.) should be able to match up Camry/Corolla flat antenna ! Try guys at Concelli Toy. best prices I've seen

Good info. With my experience on the 2018, if you're not planning on putting a table underneath, there is no need to change the antenna with the 40mm feet. You have a good inch of room and the xm radio comes in just fine.

oh man, I wish I hadn't gone through all that effort to remove mine. multiple people said it wouldn't fit with 40mm legs...

Was anyone able to find the replacement part for the 2018 4R shark fin? I have the SSO rack and i want to add one more cross bar at the rear of the rack.

I'm adding a bunch of pictures for anyone like me who could have used some more help visualizing this process. I used needlenose pliers to remove the headliner clips. Then I popped open the passenger side rear pillar cover. I didn't need the driver side. This provided just enough room to slide my hands up into the cavity above the headliner to reach the antenna bolt and connector clip. Thankfully my wife was willing to help and her smaller hands were much more adept at this than mine.

I'm also including a couple pictures of the antenna disassembled. Once I saw how short the actual antenna is, I started thinking about just modifying this for use. The trick is to waterproof it ...

there are some complete 2017 oem 4runner sharkfins, complete for $36-$37 bucks on ebay.
