Lower Control Arm Replacements?

I used a Beck/Arnley control arms with grease fitting for the LBJ. works fine so far. no issues. my advice, replace as much part as you can like the half shaft, oil seal in the front differential.

I'm also looking for updates from anyone who went with aftermarket OE style replacement LCA w/ball joints , any brand or supplier . Long term feedback would be appreciated. Looking to tackle this over the summer.

Hello everyone,

Do you guys know if the Toyota dealership will sell the upper and lower ball joints separately?

I see on the parts site you can buy the bushings separately.d Does anyone have the part numbers for the ball joints?

I would prefer to stick with OEM

Thanks

Just want to say...

My lca bolts are in the process of being cut off... got the driver side done tonight and the passenger is going tomorrow. I knew to expect the camber caster bolts or what ever to be seized but reealllly wasn't expecting it to give me this much trouble. went with oe lcas and spc uca as well as 885 ome spring on my 5100 bilsteins i installed about 5k ago.. will update after its all installed.

Just realized I never posted my update on this. I ended up going with cheap eBay arms with a "lifetime warranty"; similar to the link a few pages back. The quality seemed fine when I got them. I did them one year ago and have since driven about 22k miles. So far they are holding up fine.

My original plan was to use these and rebuild my OEM ones to keep as backups but that didn't go as planned. The cam bolts were so badly seized that more than one sawzall wasn't enough (including the biggest one I could find). I needed to use the grinder. For one side I was able to access the bolt that was siezed, but for the other side I actually had to carve up the control arm itself because both cam bolts were badly seized.

I installed the SPC cam bolts with the new arms which have a plastic sleeve so seizing shouldn't be a concern again. If anything should happen to these arms, I don't have high hopes the warranty will come through (if the eBay seller will still be around) but if not I will buy another cheap set and rebuild these with upgraded parts like my original plan.

But so far, I am impressed with the initial quality and everything seems to be holding up nicely.

Silly question - but when purchasing the OEM LCAs from the dealer, do these assemblies traditionally come with the ball joint already, or is that a separate part number that needs to be ordered separately?

EDIT: actually they can be purchased pre-assembled. There is a part number for the whole lot.
Either way the cost really adds up going all OEM Toyota. I need to do mine as well , cam bolts are seized shut. I'm going after market, they come with bushings and ball joint pre-assembled. Already have all new OEM bolts ordered, I wouldn't go aftermarket for those.

Just called and confirmed that with the shop. Mine is getting OEM LCAs, bushings, and cam bolts replaced to make alignment after the upcoming lift and TC LCAs easier.

Shop said bushings were shot, but the ball joints were still good and no replacement needed... :ohwell:

I edited my post , they can be purchased pre-assembled with bushings and bjs . There's a part number for the whole lot. I'd go with the whole unit either way , no sense having to pay labor to install new bjs a year or 2 from now.

so what are some of the symptoms of LCA bushings being shot or LBJ being worn?
Im getting some sounds that ive been chasing and im narrowing it down this LCAs as being one of the culprits but before I go down this rabbit hole I want to know they need changing. If they do im planning to go OEM

Got my truck back from the shop and the floor clunk at low speed over bumps is no longer there. Changing out the LCAs and bushings did the job.

If you jack the truck up and rock the tires at 6 and 12, and 3 and 9, and feel any sort of movement, that will help to narrow it down. On mine, while on the lift, you could shake the tire and see the LCAs jiggling at the bushings.

Lower ball joints were good - no up and down motion and still firm.

I thought I checked this pretty good a few weeks again when i was first hearing this.. Im going to check into it again

I'm going to take a whack at rebuilding my OEM LCAs. Has anyone found options for polyurethane bushings other than Energy Suspension and Whiteline?

Just curious, I just had same work done to my truck with all OEM parts (mine). how much did you pay for the labor?

How was the install on the SPC bolts? Included directions are crap, and Ive read here about some people putting them in reverse orientation to make them easier to torque down

2.5 years and ~20K miles later mine (1A Auto) are holding up just fine, and they've seen some pretty abusive trails. No issues here at all.

thanks for the info. i ended up going with the MAS ones from Ebay a few others have done since i needed some new tie rod ends as well. looks like they are made in Canada so should be quality.

I’d bet they’re made in China or Taiwan like almost everything else these days.
I went with Mevotech control arms, also a Canadian company, their headquarters is local to me. Makes putting in a warranty claim much easier if it ever comes to that. 5 year 100K km warranty. Control arm packages had Made in China on them.
