MAF sensor bracket broken

1996 SR5 5spd 230k miles

I am wondering if this would contribute to my poor gas mileage? I am avg 15mpg now after the miles/gallons calc at the pump each 3/4 week. I used to be able to get 18-21 mpg.

I still need to check the O2 sensor, and if all else fails, clean the fuel injectors through a transmission shop.

Besides a new air box, do you guys have any ideas on how to fix this? Ghetto CAI from o'reillys/napa? Put some kind of liquid seal around it?

Do you mean the air intake housing that the MAF rests in or the sensor housing itself?

I'd aim for a junkyard in an area near you first. Fellow member Death Cougar works in one in WA so you could always PM him for the part if you don't find it on your own.

I updated the pic that i guess didnt show up. Hopefully it does now.

The part that is broken or breaking i should say, is the piece/bracket the MAF housing and all bolts into. If the pic is working, you'll notice the gap between the air box and MAF, and if you look closer, the bracket it cracked at the point where it protrudes from the air box. where the two bolts are.

If there is a vacuum leak after the sensor than yes that can cause a poor MPG.
If you have access to a OBD2 scanner check your short term fuel at idle. If it's not within 8% -/+ & your long term also within the same spec. If short is within and long is slightly off, take note your total trim it should not more than 10% -/+. But a high short term at idle is good indicator of a fuel or vacuum leak.

You could try to reattach the bracket, using something like Gorilla Glue. But the long term solution is to find another one.
