Not much of an update, just tapped the box for hydro assist and started working on gear install. Trying to get everything done off the rig before I tear it apart. D day on the 4 runner is may 7th. That should be enough time to do gears/lockers and t case mods at a minimum.

Got the twin sticks in today, took about 2 hours, I think most of that was cleaning off old silicon and finding where I left all of my 12mm sockets. The directions that came with the kit were terrible, and incomplete at that. But this guy over on an fj forum did a good write up with pics. I'll have to modify the shifters at a later point when I put it in the 4runner but it's good to go. When Brad told me he was getting twin sticks I thought it would be like the Dana 300, but all it really adds on this case is 2lo on the rear wheels. I guess I don't see much point in it. But he is happy.

And back to figuring out gears and lockers, hopefully have at least one axle done this weekend.
Pro(ish) tip, put thread locker on everything that doesn't call for anti seize. First off it keeps bolts from backing out, but also it keeps bolts from rusting in and seizing completely. You'll thank yourself later when you don't have to drill out a bolt.

Read stuff, buy tools, and try stuff. Maybe take a class or 2. We were all beginners at some time, I'm still a little new to some things, but if you can read a manual and turn a wrench you can do a whole lot.
But also keep in mind your life and the lives of those around you depend on you doing it right so don't take short cuts.

Uh why can't I hurry up and find a good deal on tons. I've already planned and drawn up my 3links, hell I have 2/3 of my link parts, just missing the axles and coilovers. Can't wait to see it finished, one more build to go off when I get to mine

aaaannnd, progress!
Well finally got it in the garage. Stripped it off its bolt ons and got to cutting. Have a little more grinding on the passenger side and then mock-up begins. I was debating on a frame chop for a while but decided against it.
Point of no return...
And now my garage is a mess till all this ifs crap sells.
Oh and I picked up some rollers, gotta get some weld on beadlocks for them, another trip to ballistic...
Ps. If anyone in az wants the old lift or anything else I'm talking off hit me up. The first buyer fell through. Tires are sold.

How much for those COs and what rear links was it running? What part of AZ are you in? I will be in Phoenix Thursday to Friday.

I'm on tucson, metaltech lowers, not sure what uppers.
Selling the rear as a whole, also have the wiring harness and switch for it.

Cleaned up the rest of the frame and started mock up on the front end. I don't like this total box setup. I can get an extra inch forward, but past that it's reading front frame. I know I can but I don't want to. Beginning to regret not doing a frame chop. I'm going to get some mock links in and see where everything lands, but from the looks of it I am thinking of swapping to a scout box.
Any other ideas that aren't major surgery? Brad is a big fan of the Toyota cool aid and wants to keep this stupid box. Plus I already have it, and it's tapped. But I wish I would have just gotten the scout box from the start.
For those of you that don't know the scout Pittman arm faces forward.

I know I've seen the other fj and 4th gen SASs cut that front bodymount and set the box a little lower on the frame to allow it to slide forward a little more. Then go back and redo the mount around the box if that makes sense

Got some bling up front. Gonna have to do some work around for the front upper link. But this was expected.

I had planned on just doing a link bridge, but I talked to Brad and we decided to go ahead and get a truss for it. Decided on Artec because beef.
This is my 3rd truss install but I had fabbed the last few. I think I have a pretty good system as far as a garage setup goes.
First fully welded the truss using might with gas. I did dual passes the whole thing but was only so happy with the penetration and it was stupid time consuming. So I then switched out to flux core for welding truss to the tubes. Then I mocked up the truss on the axle and preloaded it to help reduce counteract the warpage from so much welding(I actually moved the chains out to the ends of the truss after tacking it in place). did some tacking and then burned in over the course of a few hours running 2ish inch beads spread out over the axle. I never cared much flux core but I did a few runs on some scraps and was happy with my beads.
Also made some links.
