So what is the point of these devices if they in fact do nothing? Where is the speed corrected if not on the speedo, odo, etc?

The speed healer does correct it for the actual speedometer (not sure about odometer and mpg). The obdII devices like scangauge or ultragauge just display it correctly on their own screen. That is what I use... It has a screen to configure the correction factor.. which is very easy to figure out with a GPS.

I would also mention that there does seem to be some tuner shops that can now tune these ECUs. If so, correcting the tires size should be super easy in the calibration. I'm actually very surprised you can't correct it with TIS It's typically a configurable option on trucks. Toyota is the only brand I have heard of without that option for the dealer to configure....

FWIW on the gearing - the RX350/highlander has 4.40 gears stock and exactly the same transmission ratios (internally I think they use the same parts too) - except it has a 6th gear that is a double overdrive. Corrected for tire height, it's almost exactly the equivalent of 4.88 diffs in a 4runner with stock tires. So 4.88's with 285 would be slightly higher geared than stock gearing on most Toyota SUVs. If we had a 6 speed transmission, 4.88 gears could be stock gearing.

Mostly my point is that 4.88's aren't as far out of the range of reasonable gearing even for stock tire size as it seems at first blush. Just comparing to other Toyota models with very similar engine/transmission setups. I'd guess with the S/C stock gearing should be just fine for almost any tire you can fit. Possibly even optimal over lower gears for highway cruising with the extra power. I've never thought stock gearing was too high offroad.

yea, more for 34, 35s... 285s it's still accurate.

Would be totally awesome to have in all these hills here in WV. My highway entrance ramp is 1/3mi uphill, and it takes some discipline not to mash it. Gotta leave it in 4th until you get over the hill, which is all in all, about 3/4mi long.

I read in another post that the CARB EO# should be D-488-40, but looking at the PDF, it does not appear to be updated to include the 2010-Present 4Runner.

Just wanted to clarify that this kit is NOT yet CARB approved. Our Magnuson 4Runner will be going in for testing shortly and once approved, we will be able to sell into California.
D-488-40 applies for the following applications:
01-90-40-011-BL 2003 – 2009 4RUNNER
01-90-40-007-BL 2005 – 2015 TACOMA
01-90-40-009-BL 2007 – 2009 FJ CRUISER

I'm real curious what the injector duty cycle is looking like with this kit being installed. Would be cool to get a little crazy and do a 93/E85 mix, most likely having to upgrade the injectors with that. I have E85 readily available where I live and that sounds like a complete blast. I see I.D makes some 1065cc injectors for the 4.0L :flamethrwoer2::bat:

You can't run E85 in a 5th gen for multiple reasons.... Injector swap would require a custom tune.... There are one or two people in the country who can do it....

That was us!! We sold/shipped out the first production magnuson S/C yesterday and jeff (owner of that runner) was the first one to recieve the newly released production model. Dealers will get priority on orders over regular customers who were on magnusons wait list. 50 kits are being made for the month of december, followed by another 50, the first 3 months.... As for CALIFORNIA customers, they wont be for sale here till like around march when the carb no# is issued to Magnuson. Only out of state (cali ) can purchase them at this time and will only ship out to non california addresses.....HOW do i know this, because im a Magnuson Supercharger Dealer.

This kit will be legal. Magnuson will have the carb no. For this kit in march of 2018 maybe slighty sooner. Thats when it will be for sale in California.

These kits wont be on sale (discount) and the first batch is shipping. Just 50 kits. If you were up in the wait list and outside of california you can get one. Keep in mind dealers get priority on the kits. New orders for the january kits will be going up soon so get on the wait list or contact your local dealer.

This whole launch has been an absolute mess.

I too signed up for the emails and all I got out of it was holiday email spam, rather than being able to order one of these. Frustrating to say the least.

I also didn’t receive any emails. I did hook up with a vendor early (Josh, [MENTION=153093]SiickMotorsports[/MENTION] , above) because I heard they had priority. Through a combination of luck, and a lot of effort (by Josh), I was able to get a kit. I was also a bit perplexed by the radio silence from Magnuson and understand the frustration.

Yesterday afternoon I sent my ECU info to magnuson using an OBDII tool (provided, shown below) and am awaiting the tune for my 2013. I will not be taking the vehicle apart without tune in hand, and it is -13 here today (well below freezing in the garage). Due to the climate and the holiday I anticipate install this coming weekend. For up to date pics/video check my Instagram feed @blue_ox_offroad . Writeups take more thought and time, but will make their way to the forum and/or trail4runner.com shortly thereafter. I will be doing basic performance testing and will try to get a dyno lined up.

I understand the frustration with the rollout for all of the reasons mentioned by others above. That said, once it’s on your doorstep you can’t help but be excited. Stay tuned!
