McCain announces running mate on 72nd birthday

How else could you get the American media to overlook your birthday if you felt age may be detrimental to your candidacy?

It is quite ironic that the "media pundits" are harping about the 'lack of experience' with Gov. Palin; while singing the praises of Sen. Obama (who has much less experience, particularly on the executive level). She's potentially the VP, while he is pushing for the #1 slot.

Another oddity is how people think that Joe Biden will somehow push for "change" in Washington. Duh! He's been there for 35+ years and has had plenty of time to stand up to special interests and to not be corrupted by the 'Capitol Culture'. Instead he's as much of (if not more of) an insider as McCain.

2008 -- Politics as usual.
:bash:

P.S. I bet the Hildebeast is spitting nails right now.
:biggrin2:

It's a balance of power... can't have two smart people in the Oval Office, they'll bump heads. Need a smart one and dumb one, someone that will nod and smile as choices are made and shots are called. This will be reverse of the current administration, rather than the President be a puppet of the Vice President. Chaney has to be the most laid back VP of all times, only time I hear of him on the news is when he has a heart attack.

I say McCain is trying to sway all the Miss Independent Woman supporters of Clinton. What's sad is McCain passed up more qualified individuals in choosing his running mate.

The real question is, if McCain dies in office where's the "experience" of the one stepping up to the plate, since Obama is lacking it.

Forget Obama and McCain... Uneek and Falls for the White House 2008!!!

I'll agree with the lack of experience, yet at least she's running for the number 2 spot, she comes from an average working background before politics, and is the only Governor in the whole mix... so at least she has some executive experience. She's had as much or more experience as Obama has (running for the #1 spot) seeing as he's spent more than half of his few years as senator campaigning.

What does excite me quite a bit is that she sounds like an asskicker. She didn't have any gumption about trampling the incumbant Republican governor in the primary, nor did she flinch about calling others on corruption and scandal. Even braver than partison finger pointing, it was other republicans she took down for corruption. Brave... and it earned her a near %80 approval in AK at times.

I've no doubt she'd bloody a few noses (metaphorically) in a debate.

Finally, I really liked that her speach listed accomplishments and showed a history of her actions which is likely how she'd continue to behave, rather than more of the same platitudes, tripe, empty and economically impossible promises.

That being said, I'm still not happy with McCain as the GOP choice. Why does it always seem to come down to the lesser of two evils?

For those you don't know it, the repubs conceded the election today. The chick is way dirty. Nickel on the skinny guy.

I like that move. Hillary's undecided voters can potentially decide this election, so that was smart! After hearing her speech, I am impressed. It seems like she is the everyday American like Obama.

As an alaskan, and a person in the media biz, ive met palin a few times.

You are correct in thinking she is an asskicker.

Seems gimmicky since the Dems have the first black man running they figured a woman would help counteract that.

+1 to the above comments.

+2 for her not being an attorney or a lobbyist of some kind.

+3 that she is at least somewhat "hot" and pleasing to see & hear on stage.

+4 that she is not Hillary.

Roger that! With her being an "outsider" to the current political games, she is less likely to owe favors or end up with somebody having 'dirt' on her for past actions. Gov. Palin is still relatively unknown to most Americans, but she's one of those people that you like a little bit better as you learn more about her. Kudos!

Yep; that pretty much sums up my thoughts. McCain was my last choice among the GOP field. While I am a libertarian (both large 'L' and small 'l') in my heart, I could still stomach a "true" conservative candidate if the GOP were to put forth one.

Bob Barr is the nominee of the LP ( http://www.lp.org ) and is no stranger to the Washington game, but the fact remains that either Obomber (how my NY-bred girlfriend says his name) or McCain will occupy the White House in 2009. Do I vote Libertarian and remain ideologically sound and permit the socialist from Illinois to get my ballot by default -- or should I just hold my nose and pull the lever for McCain? Either choice seems inherently wrong.
:bash:

Then again, maybe I am just thinking too deeply about this!

When I first heard McCain picked Sarah Palin I was like WTF? But any lady who can handle an AR meets my test as potential Commander in Chief :D

She also sort of reminds me of Sarah Conner in T2 :D After hearing her speak and looking at her record she strikes me as the type of ass kicking smart/sexy lady who drives a T4R or Jeep. She may just get my vote.

I think this hurts McCain more than helps;she's a candidate of image more than substance. She's been govonor of a state with less people poeple than the city of Denver and before that she was a mayor of a city of 5000.
She's also about big business and oil and is a bit too extreme right wing conservatist for this country. This 8 years has made me sick of Republicans so we need to break the chain and then we'll see what the Republicans can offer in 4 years.
.

What if McCain, who is 72 and has cancer, goes down then she's in charge which doesn't exactly scream a comfortable situation.

Experience? Obama was a state legislator for 7 years and US Senator for the last 3 and has a bit more experience with goverment period than Palin.

I'm independant so I don't think everything Obama does is golden but he'll be less damaging down the road than McCain

I think Obama has this election in the bag.

I think she's HOT !!

I agree a risky move , but I think it will pay off . Obama's people are starting to see through the clouds anyway , so this may be a good boost for John Boy .

The fiscal responsibility aspect of the Presidency is a sham. The President has little to do with it; especially presidents as weak as both Bush's and Clinton (weak in terms of congressional favor. Reagan had the power of persuasive ability and the will/focus to move the political tide his way.) There are the Presidents' fingerprints on the deficit but it's far more about a conglomeration of world events, Congressional leadership and the balance of power in Congress.

The President can't sign a check for anything, that's all I'm saying.

And yes, she's hot:D Actually she's one of those "sum of the parts exceeds..."

I remember years back when there was a debate between Reagan and Mondale (I think it was Mondale) and Mondale asked about his age (Reagan) being a drawback in the presidency and Reagan came back and said not unless your youth and inexperience is .

It was the best line in politics I have ever seen or heard. It shut Mondale down in his tracks . He was literally speechless .

I'm really dating myself with that , but I love this political stuff .

Still happens when a president is fiscally conservatist.

Even god is giving us a reminder why a Republican in office is bad. Gustav is now a 5 and looking to hit NO again which was a disaster in goverment along with NO.

I really doubt either one has anything to do with the other.

I pray for the people in it's path.

I just want a break from the Republicans and vote for some intelligance in the white house and reduce some of the cronyism that exists in the republican party and still does today.

I'm not a Democrat and I vote for what I perceive as the best guy to run our country and not blindly like alot of Rep and Dems do.

Obama is a smart guy (he's got 180 IQ) and I don't think do anything that's detrimental to this country (unlike the Reps have done for 8 years) over the next 4 years but McCain is too much in line with Bush style economics and ideals and that bothers me.
