Not sure if any of you have yet dealt with the dreaded melting lift hatch switch.
My truck is a 2010 acquired December 2009 and it just experienced this. Granted, I spend half the year >100 oF in deserts like Vegas, Sacramento, and Arizona.
I purchased the new part from Toyota of Dallas for $43.76 and the part number is 84840-35010 .
Apparently, most Toyotas use the same part and there are several older models where people have complained about this issue.

The repair on a 5th gen is different from 4th and is relatively straightforward except for the typical "pull on a clip until it breaks – or maybe not if you are very lucky – but we can't tell you where the clip actually is so here is a vague as hell diagram in a toyota tech repair manual" Toyota fashion.
Took about 2 hours to complete.
