I am originally from Sheboygan, WI but I currently live in Detroit, MI. I finally got around to adding some offroad modifications to my 4Runner and am preparing a build thread. Most of my work has been general maintenance.

Quite a drive out from the Charles C Deam Wilderness (South-Central IN)
Had quite an unexpected adventure driving home from camping through the Charles C Deam Wilderness about a month ago, overnight storms turned barely trickling streams in pretty legit water crossings, see video below. There are concrete slabs across these little streams, now I know why. Normally, the gravel roads through the forest are incredibly well graded, to the point of being very boring and any old sedan can drive through there. However, the current was strong enough to wash away the other side of the bank, enough that my 4Runner dropped down a good foot or so and scraped up the front skid plate. Sounded unpleasant, but I just had to go for it and get through. I wimped out on the next one, it was much siltier on the approach, and the water deeper. Probably would have been fine, but with 3 people in the car that just wanted to get home in one piece and no other vehicles to assist in a recovery, I tucked tail and found another way back. Moral of the story: walk every water crossing. Oh and stock 4Runners can take a hit and shrug it off
I can't imagine the carnage if I was in something with a lower bumper.

I probs wont be in my 4Runner though cuz I'm going with my family so we would probably take the sluburban. It's a great show though that's dog friendly and good vendors. They give away a lot of free dog food and I've got two dachshunds to feed so I've walked out of that show with almost $50 bucks in free dog food

Hey all just letting you guys know that next weekend Oct. 3-4 there is a trail ride event at Trollhaugen Ski Resort in Dresser Wi being put on by GO-4-Wheelers. I will be in my jeep(I know blasphemous) with some dudes in other jeeps but the best part is watching people whine and cry when they scratch their brand new jeep because apparently trails should not damage vehicles in their minds.

Hey all, I had a 2000 Limited with 215K a few months ago and sold it to get a 15 Tundra. Well that's for sale and I'm going back...
I'm looking for a 00-02 Limited 4X4 in silver, gray, black or white. I will travel for a good one, distance isn't a factor. I've been chatting with a guy on the east coast about his. He wants $5K, it has 192K miles and needs springs & brakes in the rear(he has the parts). He's done timing belt, water pump, radiator, front brakes & exhaust. He's kept up on and knows 95% of the service history and always utilized the dealer or OEM parts to do the repairs/maintenance. It seems solid but I'm open to something with less miles. I would like to have this one for a while, I should have never sold my 2000.
I've hunted craigslist for the last 2 weeks and most are either not kept up on maintenance or are $7-9K with 200k+ miles. I have no problem paying for one, if it's what I want.

Hey everybody, newish 3rd Gen owner (Jan 15) and checking in to the Midwest group! I live in Milwaukee now, but grew up in Iowa and went to school in Michigan so where do I fit in??
Since I'm posting I figured this is as good of a time as ever to ask for a little help on my decision making. I need new tires before the winter and it's as good of a time as ever to pull the trigger on wheels too - also an excuse to put it by the gf...
I have an 02 Sport Edition in Thundercloud and decided on the 5 Star through FN Wheels, but on the fence between matte black or gunmetal. I mean you can't really go wrong with matte black and anything, but it's not exactly an uncommon theme. I thought the gunmetal may be a little bit of a unique look, but the contrasting shades of silver may not look as good in practice as in theory.
So what do you guys think, matte black or gunmetal? For the record I'm probably going with Hankook Dynapro AT-M or General Grabber AT 2 tires.

Its like you said, there wont be enough contrast between gunmetal and the color of your truck, and it would probably look odd. I would go matte black. Black always works well. Yes, its very common, but theres a good reason for that.
