Has anyone add the puddle lights to a model without them? If so what part numbers did you use and was there wiring already there for the mod? What tips,do you have for install? I searched but nothing particular came up.

No.

No.

It has come up before, but because there is no wiring, plus the cost of components is high, I'm pretty sure noone's ever done it.

Contrary to what many think, 4Rs are wired specifically to the oem build and not one ohm's worth more.

It can be done of course but not without a lot of work. Toyota wires them up to fit a particular model with specific options and no additional wiring except port installed options.
So you would need SR5 Premium mirrors and then you would need to run wiring to them. Then you would have to tie into the correct circuit to turn the puddle light on whenever you unlock the vehicle.
There have been several that have changed the bulbs to LED's and that in itself is a PITA but to my knowledge nobody has wanted to spend several hundred dollars to get a puddle light.

a bunch of guys over at the tacomaworld forum did it. Tacomas also don't come prewired so you have to do all that yourself on those as well. i thought about it when i had my Tacoma but only because i like the extra safety of the signal in the mirror...i ride bicycles and motorcycles to so this is a huge plus for us when we see that signal on the mirror start blinking...but in the end i didn't bother and Im not going to bother on the 4R either, it is a lot of work/time that i don't have

heres one of the better ones. obviously this mod applies almost zero to our trucks but it does give you an idea of how much work you'd have to do.

While this seems reasonable, I would beg to differ. I'd be curious to know ow how much overlap there is between the wiring harnesses of different trim levels, as my sr5 for example has all the under the hood wiring for the rear cargo area inverter, even though it was not available on my trim level.

Interesting, adding a circuit is not difficult at all if needed. The parts could be had from a wrecked vehicle as well. I am trying to figure out a way to add some type of light. Even if it wasnt the same as stock. Perhaps even a flush mount led light?
