Great pics dood. When you take another set, can you pull back from the antenna a bit so we can get a better idea of how it looks with the whole vehicle in the shot?

yeah, i remembered to do that when the sun had gone down (doh!) so the one pic I took is kinda crappy since it's dark and that's why i didn't post that pic. but i'll post it up in the second update from today with the other pics so you can see for now, but i'll take another better pic tomorrow during the daytime.
EDIT: I'm really really glad I got the 5" and not the 3" since that 3" would have looked pretty dinky on the truck. No offense to those that have the 3" but that's just my opinion. If you like your 3" then more power to you!

The wait for Metra is unbearable, harper!
i REALLY hope party mode still works after the pioneer install. i REALLY REALLY like the way music sounds with party mode enabled!! i know several people have said they can't tell the difference, but I can tell.
As far as I know, the bluetooth controls will not work, but the others will. This is OK with me since I can't get the dang BT phone controls to pair up my phone anyways.
According to my installer, the pioneer does not have built in XM/Sirius although it is XM-ready meaning you have to buy the XM receiver to have it additionally hooked up.
I am eventually (when I have the money) going to upgrade the speakers and maybe add a small sub and will probably stick with pioneer for the speakers/sub. any thoughts on pioneer speaker/sub quality?

Just have them put your Pioneer nav without the Metra bezel until it gets here. It's just a cosmetic piece of plastic that snaps in place.I'm taking mine out this weekend just to see what harnesses I'll need.I'll shoot ya some pics of how it snaps in.
After some more research,I am probably going to get the Pioneer Z110BT like yours.I can get one for $878 shipped where the Kenwood is $1100.Both are great units. Did you see on youtube how easy it is to bypass the Pioneer for free? Move a pin on the harness and splice a couple of ground wires.Sweet!
Party mode most likely won't work with aftermarket as it is switched in the factory HU. But have them wire it so that the 2nd row speakers and the liftgate speakers are on at the same time . It will be Party Mode+2 all the time.As far as speakers , I usually use Infinity Reference or Boston Acoustic. Great sound for the price.

hey shawn,
what options are you talking about? if you are referring to the window roll-down module, tilt sensor, etc... i did not get those since they are each $100 extra. the installers spent ALL day trying to get the bypass to work. only AFTER i mentioned to them that they might have to use my valet key (a suggestion that i read on here from semperfly's experiences), did they finally get the system working properly. so, yes, they will need to permanently put a key in the steering column in order for the Viper to work. i assume this is the same for you?

I really think there's more to party mode than just the fact that certain sets of speakers are paired together... I say this bc the music sounds different w/ PM on than w/ PM off. Here's a quote from my post in another thread:
so there must be something else that it does if it produces better non-distorted bass and clearer/cleaner treble and so forth... i don't know if that makes sense how i'm describing it :shrug:

Is that barrier poking into your headliner on the driverside or is that some weird reflection?

It's just a weird reflection. All of those silver bars are adjustable.

Right. I had posted my experiences on the valet key also. I also had an issue with where the alarm antenna was placed and options available (custom settings) that are availbale but not always known about until later. (Kinda like the T4R customizable options that the dealer never let's you in on.)
I did have my T4R options customized and matched my alrm to them (auto window rollup, down, single door unlock and all door unlock, etc.)

Even though Metra still has not released the dash kit for the 2010, I am dropping off the Runner to have Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Navigation installed tomorrow morning. I'll planning on having them "jerry-rig" the stock dash kit to fit over the nav unit so it doesn't look all completely exposed.
Will ask them to go ahead and perform the nav override so I can watch DVDs and operate the nav when the truck's in motion. Another thing is that I called my local Toyota parts dept and they said that the installers could probably just pull the XM from my stock stereo and connect it to the pioneer - don't think that will work but we'll find out soon enough.
Then once the Metra dash kit comes in, I'm going to paint it matte black or satin black and have them put it on to complete the install. I have an important committment to prep for on Friday, so I most likely won't have any pics up until the weekend. Stay tuned!

Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Navigation System (Still waiting on the Metra Dash Kit)
And again. Looks kind of ugly without the dash kit.
Planning on taking the dash kit and painting it flat black when it gets in as well as some of the other interior silver pieces (ie the pieces w/ the temp and fan knobs).
IMPRESSIONS
What I like:
The system is great so far w/ a few exceptions. Navigation works great, has almost all the addresses I've needed to look up as well as most POIs. The sound component of the system is excellent. It makes the stock speakers sound like a million bucks! I have yet to set up the XM by calling them. I have the override and have tried playing a DVD and it works well with good video quality. I like how it has one BIG screen with all the buttons lined up at the bottom. This gives it a clean look. Love how the back up camera hooks up to a bigger screen AND I still have the image on the rearview mirror. I love how there is a customizable home screen that I can put my 'most used' icons onto in any order I want. There are lots of customizable settings so you can give the system you're own personal touch. The nav has multiple views including 2D and 3D. At night, the display switches to night mode which is easier on the eyes. The navigation voice is pretty easy to understand and gives reasonable notice in advance of any turns or exits. The iPod interface wire works well and charges the phone at the same time. The nav screen w/ iPhone connected looks similar to that on the iPod with the control wheel. The phone function works well. I can hear people I talk to and they can hear me clearly through the microphone that's included. The left-sided steering controls worked with an additional steering harness but the right-sided controls don't work (ie handsfree). That's OK though because there is a 'handsfree' button on the nav that I can use to speak voice commands to control the nav and also call people.
What I don't like:
Sometimes the nav doesn't show the street names of the streets in the near vicinity of my vehicle - annoying. The voice command takes some getting used to so I'm still figuring that out - I've heard a lot of 'Sorry, I didn't understand that' so far. I had the iPod wire put into the glove box and this is quite annoying to have to reach over to the glove to get it out so don't make the same mistake. The display is somewhat difficult to see when it's sunny but this may be because I don't have the dash kit. When I look up a POI, it will bring all the locations up in a 300mi distance but won't sort it automatically to whats nearest to me. For me to do this, I have to hit the on-screen 'Sort' button 2 to 3 times. I had to buy an additional XM receiver which cost me a $100 dollars extra.
That's all I can think of for now regarding Pros and Cons but will update this post when I do remember.

Looks like its going to be seriously cool... I saw a demo for the Pioneer system on YouTube... very cool.

I didn't get a chance to de-chrome ALL the pieces - could only do the roof rails, handles, and front emblem for now. I will get to the rear '4RUNNER' emblem , fog light pieces, and horizontal strips soon. I'll put together a write-up on how to do this soon as I took pics of the materials and the de-chroming process. I also have a few tips for those who will attempt the same of what NOT to do as I found out the hard way and royally screwed up one of the pieces. I'm also going to start on the interior silver pieces in the next 2-4 weeks so keep an eye out for that (starting with the dash kit and the silver pieces directly below that).
IMO, the Runner looks MUCH better blacked out than with the chrome on it. Now all I have to do with the exterior is finish the conversion and get some black MKW M19 wheels. That, plus a 3" lift, and I'll have the exterior exactly how I want it!
