I've been machining and building engines for a long time. And while lubriplate was the go to years and years ago, it has many drawbacks and can potentially ruin an engine. It is not oil soluble and can clog up small oil passages. Also, DO NOT coat the cylinders with it! It will get behind the rings, turn into heavy carbon deposits, and render the rings ineffective. On the cylinders clean, clean, clean, then wipe with oil and toilet paper until there is no more dirt. Apply just a small amount of oil to your rings to help then slide through the ring compressor. That's all you need to do for piston installation.
