The findings are useless if you are using them to support the idea that Marvel Mystery Oil made any difference whatsoever, as you ran it in the same tank you switched to ethanol free gas, which is known to provide better fuel economy. You have zero evidence that the MMO had any effect, that's all I'm saying.
By "controlled test", I simply meant introducing one variable at a time, so you can make a comparision and get real results that can only be attributed to the one change you made, assuming driving style remains constant. If you run your next tank with ethanol free gas, and no MMO, then you would get to see the effect the MMO had on your mileage by comparing to the previous tank.
I use Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG to track my mileage on all my vehicles, it makes comparisons like this very easy, and allows you to enter notes that may have played a role in your results for when you look back at it later. Check it out.

5-speed FTW. SWMBO averages 18.5mpg, 100% city, short trips, 3.4, 33's, 4:10's...

No, you have to calibrate it in order to get an accurate reading.
You'll need a GPS unit with a trip meter.
First, you have to calibrate the distance measurement. The manual tells you how to do this but here's the short version:
1. Set all the UG trip gauges to zero from the main menu>gauge menu (I think - going by memory here.)
2. Set the trip meter on the GPS to zero. You can disregard the trip meter on the odometer, it's worthless for this.
3. Drive at least 100 miles with both the GPS and the Ultragauge operating.
4. At the end of that time, note the miles on the GPS. This should be your "true" distance traveled (or as close to 'true' as you're going to find.)
5. Go to the Ultragauge menu, then > vehicle setup > calibration and select "distance calibration." It will show a distance on there that will probably be a few miles short of the distance shown on the GPS. Using the up/down buttons, adjust the reading until it matches the GPS and then push the menu button. You have now calibrated distance.
Now go fill the tank. Set the fuel level to "full" and select the "Zero all fuel settings" (or however it's phrased.) This will set you up to calibrate fuel consumption. Then just drive (you don't need the GPS anymore.)
When it's time to fill the tank, fill it and note the amount of fuel used. Then go to the ultragauge menu, > vehicle setup > Calibration and select "calibrate MPG." It will have a display of how much fuel it thinks you used. Using the up/down buttons, correct this to show actual fuel used. Your unit is now calibrated.
You can actually re-calibrate it every time you fill up with gas. I have a policy not to re-calibrate if I'm on a road trip because I figure each station I go to might have separate settings for when the pump shuts off, which will throw off my calibration. I do recalibrate if I get new tires, or if there seems to be a large discrepancy between the MPG I think I'm getting and what the UG shows.

I just towed a 6X12' U-Haul trailer from San Diego to Portland and averaged 14 MPGs. My lowest was 11 going through the Mt. Shasta area.
I agree, changing 2 things at once makes it impossible to know if it was 1 or both that made the difference. If you wanted to know for sure, IanB is right, you have to use only 1, ethanol free or MMO.
Personally, I've seen a slight increase, 1-2 mpg, from using ethanol free, but not always. Probably due to differences in driving styles. When doing a cost comparison, it isn't any better paying .20-.30 cents more per gallon for the mpg gain. But I assume that it's easier on the engine. My max mpg's is 22. I've ranged from 12-13 towing to 22 on the highway, with an 18.6 avg over 2 years.

i have no idea what i'm getting, i do know it cost me around $800 to do a 3.5k mile road trip this summer down to cali and back up through nv,ut and the rest....i sure could have used a few more mpg's on that one!

5 speeds FTW! I average about 19-20 mpg with about 70% stop and go driving and around 30% slow highway driving. I can't wait to fill my tank up with ****ty winter gas so it'll drop to 15!

ended up here. Its 302 miles corrected for the tires.
That last 1/4 tank goes really quick. It came out to 18mpg.

I have all of you beat. I get 11-12 city in my jeep. I think my 4runner gets around 15-16
