My ideal camping Chuck box (cheap, light, organized)

Hi Guys, I really want to share my latest project, as I'm sure many can benefit from it. I spent more hours than I'd like to admit coming up with the idea, borrowing from two separate ideas, and executing. My fiance is totally on board with this overlanding / camping / offroading obsession, but we were both tired of the hassles of the kitchen. I've spent too many years just dumping everything into a big tote. Here is my answer.


Banana for scale.

First thing you'll find is my stove packed at the top.

Here's what it looks like "deployed." It's not fully packed, but objects were used to ensure clearance. That's an 11" pan with all long items (cooking stick, tongs, etc.) on top

3 standard rubbermaid containers fit in this top left corner

The Drawers

2 propane bottles fit end to end, full roll of aluminum paper, 3 large soup cans

The simple and light corrugated plastic and duct tape will deflect with 12lbs of directed force, but no signs of failing. And why would you even do that.

It's just resting on this side even. board spring back to original shape.

Cost of the project:
$17 box from home depot
$14 corrugated plastic sheet (24"x48" cut in half hot dog)
$7 drawer organizer
$8 baskets

Hope this helps someone to get out more! I really believe that the more nerdy organization you do before hand, the more willing you'll be to go away for a quick night or a week.

This is a great idea, my current box can only be so organized without dividers. Get tired of pulling everything out to get to something on the bottom.

that's exactly my motivation for this project. I used boxes within my boxes, but stuff still got buried. With my setup now, I can find things in the dark no problem, as i know exactly where they are. Also, 4 hours down a dirt road on its back and everything stayed where it was supposed to be.

I started with a "Husky" brand box from Home Depot.

I have that same box, but I use it a bit differently. It lives in the truck (you can strap it down by the handles on the base and still put the lid on after.
