After three weeks, my silver TE 4R arrived yesterday. Dealer said it was the first Silver TE delivered in GA...all I know is I hadn't seen any others thus far and I get a lot of stares. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
It had 3 miles on it when I took delivery. It was made in December 2009. It has a full skid plate under the gas tank, which I thought I had read somewhere on here had been changed to a half skid recently.
My trade-in was a 2008 King Ranch Crew Cab F-250 with the V10 Gas engine which averaged 9.8MPG. My new 4R has been getting 19.5 in town and 22.7-23 on the highway, which I am thrilled about!!!!!
Surprises-
I thought the first thing I would change would be the shift knob, but it works very well with the height of the center console. Feels very solid and I like the rubberized grip to it.
JBL Navigation is much better than expected. Sound is very good and using my iPod via the USB- it works very well. I'll probably install my Garmin 478 chart-plotter for the weather radar it has, but for an OEM navi, this one is very good.
KDSS is awesome, both on the road and in the dirt. Much better than I expected. Spent 30 minutes today playing in an abandoned construction site driving over stormwater terraces and ditches, my F250 could never have done what I drove over today. again, KDSS is awesome.
I haven't found crawl control to be that impressive. Personally there seem to be too many buttons and modes for the 4x4 system for me. It all works, but I'd be just as happy with high and low range and the KDSS.
Drivers position is excellent and the layout of the interior is the best of any vehicle I've had. The air condition control knobs look cheap in the pictures, but feel sturdy and solid in the truck.
Really missed my heated seat warmers this morning.
Planned Modifications...
Install my hidden amber LED strobes in the front and rear lights, so I don't get run over by the large construction equipment at work.
hard wire my radar detector up next to the rear view mirror.
Probably, hard wire my Garmin 478 up next to the mirror also.
definitely add rock rails with steps (hopefully like the FJ has) so my kids can get in and out better.
Remote start kit
now I just need to find the thread where I saw all of the different switches that could be ordered to fit in the existing holes.
