Need advice: Jack stands

I have a 2" lift and 285 tires on my '02. I have been looking for some jack stands for small maintenance operations like rotating the tires, changing brakes, etc.

How much height do I need out of a jack stand to get my rig high enough off the ground to do these things?

I'd like to find something made in the US, and pin type, not ratchet (I don't want to start the whole debate again, I just feel safer under one than the other).

Sorry for the uber noob question, I'm just tired of going in circles with my search, and figured someone here would be in the know.

I really like Hein-Werner stuff but these don't have a pin for backup. The Torin's do, and they are a pretty good price... I think that might do it.

Does anyone know the minimum height to get the tires off the ground for this set up? I don't want to push the limits of the stands if I don't have to.

torin 6ton from Northern Tool can be had for under $40 with a sale and coupons. They can handle the height.

Back in the day, according to my friend's uncle, Hein -Werner would sent out a qualified rep to replace your leaking or broken piston, or other broken parts on your jack or whatnot. Their service was top notch. Not so much anymore as he, an ASE retiree says, but that doesn't diminish their build integrity IMO.

The reason I didn't go with HF stuff (not sure what brand) was that I read somewhere online that the quality of their welds were pretty bad. I don't have a link handy but if I were you I'd look into it. The most obvious safety conscious thing you can do if buy a 6ton jack when you really only need a 3.

Without having it lifted off the ground, that won't tell me much - the springs still have to decompress. Unless you want to lend me a floor jack in the mean time so I know how much lift I'll need out of one of those too...

Harbor Freight 6 ton jack stands. I've been using these for years on my old Jeep, 4runner, and VW Bus.

I'm definitely in the market for some new jack stands AND a floor jack after lift. I've been using 3" in wood recently to make it all work...

With 4Runners, most regular-height jack stands probably will not lift high enough. Gotta make sure your floor jack will handle the lift height too...

for the front yes, but for the rear, just measure from the bottom of the housing, to the ground. add an inch and you're golden. that would be about the minimum. that's a good starting point. I personally like to have things a bit higher when I work on them...


also, floor jacks are usually in the 19-20" lifting range, I have seen some that are higher. but have never had a problem lifting whatever I needed to with the standard jack.
that is of course and actually floor jack, and not one of those autozone "jacks"

Most are only up to 20" - the ones I linked are 25.5" lift and that extra bit makes a difference.

23" is the farthest the Torins will go. Other than the HWs that Brian just posted, I can't tell ya the rest.

If you get a Torin, or HF set, pull them out of the box and inspect them at the counter before buying to make sure the welds are good.

6 tons will work fine and I have the Torin's as well. I'm going to pick up a set of 12 tons soon though since I don't like extending the stands a lot and that way it will be a bit safer. 12 tons are a bit excessive though for a 2" lift unless you have the cash around.

Not quite the same. I'm looking for pin type or at the very least ratcheting with a pin backup. It's stated in the opening post.
