I have a brand new 2015 4runner limited and i took it today to have the side drivers/passenger windows tinted.. The tint shop told me that they have a yellow hue inside the window itself and when they put a tint layer over them that i makes them look more yellow.. has anyone every heard of this before? It took him about 2hours to tint the rear (sliding) glass and i just figured that he didnt want to tint anymore windows..lol. i need any help or suggestions please

I just had my '15 TE tinted a couple of weeks ago. no idea what they're talking about.

There IS some tint already in the glass, but no yellow hue.

Someone posted a great thread on here about tint not too long ago.

When they tinted their fronts, they looked like like they were slightly green compared to the rears.

Maybe that's what they were talking about.

That.. sounds plausible given the yellow claim.
If blue-ish tint was applied on yellow, it would look green.

But I have not seen a single 4r with OEM yellow window tint.
you have my interest!

I agree but now they have me convinced that there is some yellow in the window. I think if they would have said there was some purple in the window that my mind would have then seen purple. Anyway I am going next week to another tint shop that I have used before and will have them put 35% on and go from there. Once I get the windows tinted I will add before and after photos. Thanks for the input.

I may be able to chime in on this since this is what I do. Its difficult to match factory tint perfectly because different auto makers have different color tinted glass. Toyotas are more of a greenish hue than a yellow in my opinion. Also all window film manufacturers are a slightly different hue, either green, blue, or yellow. Since most tint shops only carry one brand of film, its difficult to match every vehicle perfectly. Did he say what brand they were using?

If you have a LE just keep in mind the rumor mill says that if you use semi metallic tint that it affects the RF transmitter.

That's why some shops recommend ceramic tint.

Window Tint

Sorry folks. But I just don't see the attraction for tinting windows.
When the front side windows are tinted no one else can see the driver. Other drivers can't tell if they're looking at the 4 way stop sign. Pedestrians can't tell if they're being seen. On the highway you can't tell if the driver is paying attention, texting or sleeping at the wheel. That's why new cars don't come with tint on the front side windows.
For me, I like the clear, unobstructed view of the scenery. And there's more light on my keypad while texting. :D

My solution is going to be 5% on the front windows and 20% over the factory privacy glass. This whole green/ yellow glass bs sucks.

Meh... find yourself a new window tinter.

I called Mile High Window Tint and said match the front exactly to the rear and thats exactly what they did. You just need to find somebody who really knows what they are doing and carries a wide array of tint.

Actually, the front windows on your T4R are factory tinted (not clear glass)...... where did you get they are not?

I agree. Find yourself someone that "has a clue"!

FWIW my tint has a slight green hue on the front but hardly a problem. I did 35% wrap plus the front windshield strip. The factory parts are down to 24% on the shop's light meter. SunTek film.
