Need to buy a new key and a fob?

After reading the secrets thread, I realized the dealer only gave me 1 key.... which was the valet key. The dikfur only gave me 1 key fob too... So Id like to order another key... preferably one that I can use to lock the damn glove box... Id also like to get another fob... What do I need to know... Id like to stay away from the dealer if at all possible....

Probably the cheapest place to pick up a key fob would be ebay. As for Keys, probably the same place.

There was a post a while back that claimed you could program a key without having to go to the dealer. Or was it over at Toyota 120 Platforms Forum - Powered by vBulletin ?

The key fob seems pretty easy to program, and the directions are everywhere.

Ok, I found a PDF, that was on a previous post on how to program a key for Prado. If you want to take a look, I can email it to you. I am still trying to find the post where it was mentioned.

I'm in a similar situation. My 07 Tacoma (lease) is due soon and I lost my fob/key picked up a replacement set online (ebay). We'll have to get it programmed or the dealer will try and screw me when I turn in.

Just had to do buy the same thing about 6 months ago. Key fob is pretty cheap and you can program it yourself. The key itself is the kick in the groin. I could be wrong but I thought you had to have a master key to program the additional key from. Got the key blank off the web but it was $90 for the dealer to cut it and program it. Total invested was prob $150-200 after it was all said and done.

I'm not a locksmith but I believe you need the master key to put your vehicle into programming mode.

Just got off the phone with the dealer... He said he will order another key and fob for me... On their dime... Hes gonna call me when it comes in.... We will see how this goes...

We took our boat out yesterday and when we got to the beach I jumped out in waist deep water to set the anchor and realized I still had my key and fob in my pocket! So I also need a new fob!:ybrick:
