Hey guys. OK..replaced the mast for my auto antenna because it was all broken up inside. Had to take it out, take the motor apart and remove all the broken parts. Now the antenna goes up and down just fine but when going up it will continue to grind afer fully extended. Going down you can hear the motor click off when it gets down all the way. So..I am just wanting to replace it with a whip..anyone do this? I think I read you can get one from a Taco and put on there...comments?
most people just pull the auto antenna and put in a regular antenna. Because it's better and you don't have to worry about bashing it on some twig and busting it all to hell... again... Just my .02
Might also want to replace the knock sensor pig tail. The get old and brittle from all the heat. I had to on my HG journey. Also wrap the exhaust crossover in exhaust wrap while the heads are off its so much easier and will help prevent the next HG from blowing anytime soon.
Under the trucks this weekend to rebuild my idler arms because my steering is wonky at times at freeway speeds. Well after special ordering the bushings and dust seals and 2 hours wrestling the idler arm off on passenger sides it all looks new as far as the bushings go..but I did notice that my outer CV boots are basically gone and the inner CV boots are free floaters..not tied down at all on either end..and this is on both sides of the truck basically. So now to get her in the shop to get the CV boots rebuilt. Are there bearings I should be having them check? Anything I need to consider to tell the mechanics...
If you tackled the HG's...you should have no problem changing out the cv axles yourself man
new raman'd axles are pretty cheap too.
Well for toyota remans they are $230 each..gonna see if I can get someone local to rebuild these here in town..if cheaper than $500 then might as well let someone else get dirty.
do you wheel a lot?
I take my 4runner out eh... about every 3 weeks for camping/wheeling trips. replaced both my axles with Autozone remans. $53 bucks each with a lifetime warranty. Press out the diff "studs" and replace with nuts and bolts. will make (next time) changing the axles a lot easier. @$53 bucks a pop, you can afford to have a spare on hand too.
Mine have held up fine and I am sure they will last even longer since the manual hub swap I recently did.
Just my 2 cents :hatsoff:
I just picked up some manual hubs..so will be doing them once I get them refurbed.
I don't wheel a lot..I have aspirations too but who knows. I guess I could put the Autozone ones on and take my time rebuilding the OEM ones..then swap later.
What is the mod pushing out the studs? I see everyone says to do it and I understand why buy don't really understand where to do it from.
