New 4Runner - Replace Tires ?

Hi,

Just bought my first 4Runner, a Canadian SR5 Upgrade, Magnetic Grey. About 1300km on it so far.

I traded in an Audi A3 so the driving is quite a bit different and I've adjusted accordingly. I expected that there would be a degree of body roll, nose dip on braking etc. but I've found that the Dueler H/Ts are pretty poor on snow and ice. I also was hoping that different tires would help a bit with the body roll.

I'm thinking of trading them in for Duratrac's (c rated) based on the reviews I've read (my driving is probably 90% on road with 5-6 months of Canadian winter)

I can get a bit of a trade in for the OEM tires but I'm questioning whether I will get my money's worth on the new tires. I could get winter tires and keep the Dueler's but I'd probably end up spending the same money.

Any advice ? I'm leaning towards the Duratracs

Most around here agree tires are the single best improvement you can make. It's worth the money.

I got my Duratracs last fall and so far I'm happy with them. I bought them not only because of winter but also because I drive off pavement time from time. There was no serious snow in my area, but we made trip in Quebec and I had a chance to drive over fresh snow, packed snow, show with ice patches, show mixed with sand etc. In my opinion Duratracs are way better in winter than Duelers. They are noiser though, but not too noisy, my wife doesn't mind and I even like the hum from Duratracs. Looking forward for a real snowstorm : )

I couldn't get anything for my OEMs, so I opted for steel wheels and Blizzaks for the winter months. I'll just swap and drive the OEMs 'til they need replacing, they're not great tires, but neither is there anything actually wrong with them for my driving.

i cant say much. i traded my stock wheels and tires straight across for a set of fj wheels with nitto terra grapplers. paid an hours labor and 4 valve stems. I do agree that the stock tires stink. horribly. i found road manners vastly improved over the OEM ones.

Remember it tires are the only thing touching the ground on your 4Runner. It should be the most important thing on any vehicle. You can do 100K of mods and at the end of the day the rubber is still the only thing touching the ground.

That being said, where I live the factory tires are fine until I wear them out.

Contrats on the new 4Runner.

Also traded in the wife's A3 for the 4runner. Replaced the stock Deulers with BFG A/Ts with 30km on the odometer. Sold the 5 Duelers on Craig's List for $600.

I decided to go with the Duratracs, getting them tomorrow ....

Now just need to decide white letters in or out
