New Fiamm Horn Install

Got the Fiamm Horns in yesterday and completed mod yesterday! Sound great, highly recommend. Mounting was easy and wiring was also not bad.

I used
two horns
one 2" bolt
one washer
4 nuts
14 gauge wire
two male ends
one butt connector

Funny to see this surface again. I knew from this thread that I wasn't going to like the horn. I did try it on a first test drive. Embarrassing!

I bought my Fiamms on the way home with the new truck, and installed them before dinner that night.

Did you have the factory meep meep horn or the factory mini Fiamms type looking horns? I peeked through my grill and it looks like there's two of them hiding back there from the factory, and they have the trumpet design similar to the Fiamms (as opposed to the flat disc type that Pat posted pictures of).

Do you think the Fiamms would be louder than my factory ones? I've been honking my horn more often lately and they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to inattentive people

Yup. Single cheesy-ass horn. Just embarrassing. Reminded me of my 1960 Beetle.

Couldn't say, but they are loud enough, and have a decent tone.

I did this install today and finally I am no longer embarrassed to honk my horn. I thought I would post some pictures of the wiring harness since that was the part that initially confused me when I read this thread. I hope that it helps someone in the future attempting this modification.

I did the Fiamm horn re-do almost four years ago on my 2010 4r Limited. One quit working then the other did so I decided to go with the BadBoy self contained air horn.....since the FIAMMs didn't last that long. The package said that it simply replaced existing OEM horn. Worked well for about 3-4 honks then the fuse blew. After taking a closer look at the directions inside the package, it requires a 20 amp fuse! The OEM wiring looks to be 18 or 22 gauge so not capable of more power so will either wire in a relay and heavier wire or do something else. What a PITA over a friggin horn that sucked from day one!

Big thanks titanpat57 & war eagle, pics & instructions combined w/tip on cover removal and using existing screws got my SR5 sounding like a truck now instead of a moped!

My 89 pickup and my 99 4runner on where definitely meep-meep horns.

I was curious about all this, the stock horn I have sounds closer to a 70's era american made car/truck than anything. I assume they changed this after 2010?

Help! Messed up the install

I installed the two horns on the SR5 (see install pic), and the horns don't sound.
I first tested the stock wiring harness with one horn and it worked. I then spliced the wire out with a join and split Y-fashion to both horns (see wire diag image). Then neither worked. I disconnected one, and it still doesn't work.
I believe I attached the hot leads to correct terminals per horn instructions and grounded correctly.
What could be wrong?

If any of my NOVA / DC partners with a 2010 are interested, I have a set of El Grande's that's free to a good home. 1 week (and maybe 5 honks!) on them. It's better than letting the movers take them to MO when I PCS this week and easier than worrying about Amazon's return system.

I ended up going back to the OEM's...the '11 horns sound just as good as the El Grandes and had the factory connections. No incentive to have non-OEM. Lesson learned.

Hi! The 2011 horns could be installed on the 3rd Gen 4Runners (1996-2002) on a plug and play way?

What model fiamms would you all recommend? We can't live with this noise.

I replaced mine this weekend. I was having issues using the relay and getting them to work. After seeing a video on a prius forum while searching "fiamm install", all they did was hook up the single wire that went to their old horn to the new one. of course you had to make a pigtail to connect both the fiamms but this worked well too.

What a huge difference.

FIAMM horns

Had not heard about the Gen 5 horn issue before. Someone was having a nap at the green light in front of me and I beeped him. It was SO embarrassing. I could have yelled louder. I got a FIAMM 74100 set. Put them in today after checking the instructions, the suggestions in this thread and watching a few (some useless) youtube videos.
I think I mostly followed the suggestions at the beginning of this thread. I found wiring them in parallel was my road to success. Now it HONKS instead of beeps.
