NEW Gobi Rack Delivered With Missing Parts

After five weeks of patiently waiting for my new Gobi Stealth to arrive, I got the call from the shipping company on Thursday and the rack was delivered yesterday. I had already sold my stock TE rack to a board member and the 4runner was looking a bit nekked so I was anxious to get my new rack installed.

Everything was arranged; I had a couple of buddies coming over to help with the heavy lifting, beer was in the cooler and all of the parts were unpacked, laid-out and ready to go.

Things were going smoothly and according to plan. We had the rack gutter cleaned-up and the rubber seals in place with a generous amount of silicone sealant applied. That's when things came to a screeching halt.

Where are the support brackets? We combed through all packing materials looking for the four mounting brackets that hold the basket too the roof but they were nowhere to be found. My frustration was growing by the second. I picked up the phone and tried to reach Gobi - but of course it's Saturday and these people are strictly M-F.

So now I'm pissed - I'm tearing apart the garage looking for the stupid brackets and in the mean time my friends have polished off all of my beer and are growing impatient. I picked up the instructions and start re-reading them- there had to be something I was missing.....
I turn to page two -the parts list - and next to the part I'm missing someone has scribbled “B/O”. B/O? WTF does B/O mean? Then it hits me - BACK ORDERED! :redbrick:

So now here I am - stuck with a rack that can't be mounted and trying to figure out how to plug the holes in my roof and where I’m going to store this thing until I get the brackets. I've never received a product before that's intentionally missing parts. Is this typical of Gobi? It would have been nice if someone would have called or emailed me to let me know before I took delivery of this thing.

Ouch that is no bueno. I havent heard of anyone missing major parts like that since I have been on this forum with Gobi products.

Pretty discouraging to read. I am still waiting on a replacement rack due to faulty coating-it's been a few months now and I'm starting to doubt ill see it.
I suppose I'll give Sandra @ Gobi a call on Monday.
I hope your brackets arrive in due time - I think you would have been better served to have received those vice the rack since you had prepped the mounting locations.

This is definitely the first time i've heard of this. Try calling the freight company. It might be in their possession some how. Gobi has always been really good about shipping their racks complete. Accessories will sometimes take a bit more time if back ordered.

Sorry about your issue. I have learned from countless projects to check and lay out all parts before any screw is turned. Gobi is no different than any other company. They occasionally screw up too.

Thanks for the advise - I'll give them a ring on Monday.

I'm also missing the faring brackets - Which, as indicated on the instructions, are supposed to be pre-assembled. They also have a handwritten "B/O" on the packing list.

Just a quick follow-up to my original post....

After going back and forth with Gobi this last week, the brackets were overnighted to me yesterday and arrived today. Sandra at Gobi did a good job at getting back to me via e-mail - Even sending me emails while they were shut down for the New Year holiday.
