Eclipse AVN Install

First of all, the wealth of knowledge in the forum is impressive. We just picked up a 08 4Runner Sport Edition v8 - black on black leather and the knowledge I gained here beforehand was invaluable to our search for the right one. :bigok: As it turns out, I believe it has a lift, a leveling kit at the least.

I also just picked up an eclipse 726e off ebay. I have the 10 speaker JBL and I know I need to get the Metra TYTO-01 harness. (If anyone has one for sale or knows where I can get one on the cheap, help a brother out.)

So the question is (i have searched), from the sound of it, the non-JBL and JBL have different dash parts and climate controls. I really like the look of the urban runner trim and from what I have read here, it is for a non-JBL 4Runner. So is there any possibility it will fit my eclipse installed in the JBL Sport dash? Anybody running this setup or will i need to be the guinea pig?

Minor Update:
I ended up ordering the Scosche dash kit for JBL. Depending on how the finished product turns out, I still may experiment with the urban runner trim ring. I'll be tearing into the rear hatch to work on the backup cam install this weekend. It's been mentioned in other threads that the rear-hatch is prewired for the toyota / eclipse cam but I haven't seen any confirmation. I have my doubts there will be a camera harness, that would be much to convenient so I'm prepared to run the wiring all the way up to the headunit.

Long Overdue Update

I completed the AVN install quite a while back. I thought I should touch a a few points that may help others down the road.

To start: This is an 08 Sport with the JBL Synthesis 10 speaker.

Installed: AVN-726E, Scoche Dash Kit, PAC-TATO Harness

TATO Harness: When researching the harnesses I discovered that the TATO comes with not only the standard 20 pin adapter but also the steering wheel harness adapter. I'm using an eclipse deck so I didn't need the PAC steering wheel controller box but by using the TATO, I didn't have to splice behind the steering connector, as it was included with the harness. For me this was a big + over the Metra TYTO all other factors being equal.

Install: Routing the backup camera wiring was the most time consuming. I wanted the camera to be in the same spot as the limited's. I ran the wire down the passenger side, up to the headliner near the rear speaker and fished it through to the rear hatch. I also removed and notched the plastic handle cover so the camera would tuck up for a factory look. So far it has worked out great and has been well worth the effort. I didn't need to drill any holes and the camera is held in place with 3M style tape.

After running all the accessory wires (GPS Antenna, Mic, Backup Cam, Reverse sensor) the other challenge was getting all of this wiring and the TATO box back into the dash. This was probably the most difficult aspect of the install for me. A second set of hands would be helpful.

Antenna Power: I know there are many threads on powering +12v to the small black wire lead that is bundled with the two antennas. I noticed the wire after it goes back into the bundle leads to the main harness from the radio. Its the only solid black wire on the 20 pin connector and I verified it's the same wire with a tester. I also verified the TATO harness supplies +12v to the pin in the connector. To double check, I unplugged the black wire at the antenna bundle and verified +12v from the harness and a degredation of signal quality. So if you are supplying +12v to the black wire on the 20 pin factory plug, there is no need to splice an additional +12v to this wire.

Overall the only wire I needed to splice in the whole install was the reverse sensor wire located in the driver side door sill. Everything else was plug and play.

Tied up a few loose ends of the AVN install this weekend.

1) My JBL SE came with the left hand steering controls but was not a factory navigation model so I added the right hand steering wheel buttons. Now I have the bluetooth Off-Hook On-Hook and the Voice activation programmed to Mute function on the wheel.

2) I never really liked the USB cable just hanging out in the center console so I added the OEM USB - AUX port to the center console which snaps right in place of the original 3.5mm AUX port. You need to modify your USB cable to fit, and I didn't want to trim the AVN USB so I just modified a USB extension cable and now have a proper finished OEM USB outlet. You can also wire the 3.5mm AUX if you want, but I never use it.

The USB port is toyota part # 86190-0C020. I priced around and ended up ordering all the parts through discounttoyotaparts.net. The port was $60 something IIRC.

Wowsers, I was afraid of that. Do you have any pictures of where it is installed?

I don't have a factory AUX port so I don't know where it would mount, but maybe I have a blank for it.

A few quick questions...

Where does the wire on the right go to? The back of the head unit? And where did you get it?

The cable on the right goes to my AVN Headunit USB input. I didn't want to modify the cable on the headunit so I just purchased a standard USB extension cable and modified it to fit the factory USB port. Basically what your looking at is a standard USB cable that I cut the outside from leaving only the flat 4 conductor remaining.

Wont work with the stock headunit unfortunately.

Would this USB/AUX wire to the E7008 nav headunit? I have no idea what female ends are on the back of that unit and honestly wouldn't even know what they go to. I wouldn't mind having this switch on the center console instead of the burried AUX port in the armrest.

I'm not sure about the E7008 nav, but I imagine you could find a way to make the OEM outlet work with any head-unit that supports USB.

I do know that the port for the USB / AUX outlet is a little smaller in length than the switch ports on the center console where the DAC button is.
