Did you push through with the test of the Philips LEDs on your 2002 3rd gen 4Runner? What were the results for low and high beams? ?Did the high beam indicator light lit up?

Kinda LOL. For like the past week I've been driving around with one halogen and one Philips LED assembly, I misplaced one of the LED driver modules.

Against a wall, pattern is almost the same as halogen, same ____/. Like in the other vehicle I tested it on, there's a lack of illumination to the right, wider beam pattern to the left, and a noticeable hot spot (brighter area) at the top of the / cutoff, it appears on the road as a "blob" of light brighter than the rest of the beam. Highbeam isn't as good as halogen, it's because in all designs (PIAA,Philips,Chinese ones based on Philips) the highbeam LEDs are on the side of the assembly, if there were any bottom mounted LEDs the highbeams would equal/outdo halogens.

The highbeam indicator does work, but then again I'm running a halogen on one side. I'll unplug the halogen tomorrow and see if it works.

Long time lurker, first time poster... Just bought a set for my 1997 limited 4runner and couldn't help but share my experience with Burtman Industries.

I have dual batteries, which take up a fair amount of real estate behind the driver side headlight... When I called and asked about exactly what kind of rearward clearance was required for the fan housing on these, Jason wasn't sure. But the call didn't end there! He actually conferenced in his PIAA contact and we got the answer right then and there (1.5" btw)! It's nice to have someone available to answer questions within a single ring of the phone instead of the trending internet chat widgets & email contact on most sites these days. Great price & just had to give props on that service!

I will volunteer to make the comparison photos under controlled conditions, and, what's more important: actual incident light measurements at measured distances with a real light meter that measures footcandles/lux.
You cannot trust phone cameras or any auto-exposre camera or imaging system if you are trying to determine the difference in brightness between two light sources.
My stock headlights with their Philips Xtreme Power® 80% More Light® 67/60 bulbs would make an excellent comparison; the 67/60's are slightly brighter than the stock bulbs. If the LED's can't beat these things then they're losers.

I can tell you that the comparison photos in Jason's last post show what may be a discrepancy in camera exposure or post production exposure processing between the two images. The background city lights are noticeably brighter in the PIAA shot.

i installed mine a while ago, but heres a couple shots:

night shot, tried to find the darkest road near me. this road is cut between a "tunnel" of trees, no outside light gets in.



pretty damn happy with them so far. dont have any before shots but the HID kit i was using is noticeably less bright. a full projector retrofit would probably be brighter, but id say these are a great deal when you consider the cost of a retrofit

the only problem with them i have ran into, is my fog light switch now turns on my hi beams, and i have lost use of the lower fogs...any ideas?

try re-installing the original halogen H4 bulbs in the socket and see if the problem is resolved. That is the first step to take.

i bought the truck with HIDs installed, never had halogens... although i guess i could go buy a cheap set to test out?

So you need 1.5 inches behind the housing to install these? I also have a dual battery setup but I don't think I have a whole 1.5 inches to work with!

For anyone who has these bulbs, if you ever get a chance, I (and I'm sure others) would like to see some high-def before and after photos in the same conditions with various backgrounds like an actual road and a wall.

This. Keeping all the variables the same. Locations, time, weather, ISO, F stop, shutter speed, etc.

I would really like to try a pair of these, I just don't have $200+ laying around right now. I would like to maybe get a pair in the future, possibly even pair with the fog lamps.

Cool. The one other good thing is, they have like a 3+ year warranty and I have a great relationship with piaa. (Meaning if something does ever happen, even if it's past that time, they will still cover me, then you are covered too)

Yep. Go to post #40 on page 3 of this thread. You'll see it all. Everyone that has installed these in their 3rd gen says they looked better than the previous HID's even, if they had them. Someone post pics too of both.

Snow/Winter Conditions?

Has anybody been through a snow storm with the PIAA LEDs? This is the second snow storm that I’ve driven through so far (many more to come) and these haven’t provided that great of visibility for me. I might switch back to halogens for the winter.
