Why place spare tire on passenger side of rear window? You lose visibility. Maybe I am missing something about functionality?

It doesn't matter where you place it ... drive side or passenger side. You lose visibility. If you put it in the middle you lose all space that could be used for a JeriCan or rotapax or even a maxtrax mounting point etc..

I always thought it as a counter balance for the driver. The rear passenger side of almost every car is the lightest corner. Which mean it should balance the car out more.. Thinking Corner Balancing ...

Do you have a side profile of how big the gap is from the tire swing from the rear hatch? That has been my only dislike about other models offer. Can't wait to see what it would look like with out a ladder and jerry cans. Trying to keep things as minimalist as possible if I make the jump.

Ill get some pictures with those components removed since it only takes a few minutes anyway

If I got this (good possibility combined with a Hybrid front, just drive down from Mississippi to save shipping), I'd probably just want the tire carrier. Once I get around to installing a bumper-mount spare the next thing I would do is figure out a way to install an aux gas tank in the former spare location.

Literally what we will be working on after this trip is creating 10-15 gallon aux tank that maybe pumps into the main tank from a switch or when it detects the main tank is low.

Eddie is that as far as the swing outs open?

If i removed the shock assists they could open all the way until they hit the bumper but yes with shock assists thats pretty much it

Instead of custom-fabbing an air-tight steel or aluminum tank, may I suggest a cheaper structural frame/skid plate supporting a pre-formed fuel-grade bladder? Maybe something from these guys or similar: Racing Safety Fuel Cell Bladder Tanks You can draw up a tank to fit the exact dimensions of the 4Runner in CAD. A flexible bladder would be less likely to rupture in the case of a rear-end collision.

And don't forget the safety foam!

I will post more pics from more angles but what cant be seen is that inside the bumper is 3-4 inches of space in there and at the edges of the bumper is about an inch or a bit more of space between fenders and the tail light area.

To better explain i can fit my entire hand not quite to my wrist but around where my thumb is and run it almost all the way to the back tail light region so its tighter in the back and bows out a bit in the front almost like the rear of the truck is sitting in the bumper like a chair

this angle really shows how much room there is... and there is plenty! but that being said we are going to trash our rig this coming month to make sure it is absolutely good to go before it goes into production.

I think I could live with that. It's not terrible. I'm looking to completely eliminate the stock bumper cover.

As far as shifting on impact... say if you came down unexpectedly hard on a rock or something... would the bumper shift up at all? I'm looking to avoid any contact with the sheet metal if at all possible.
