New Twist on Lower Ball Joint failure

Me thinks that the factory bolts are fine. How many sheared bolt failures are there, freak accidents/hits aside?

LBJ failure seems to be a hidden wear issue due to high mileage and not being a fail safe design. I wouldn't fret about the bolts.

This is making me wonder if the OEM bolts could be upgraded to a higher strength / class fastener. I need to verify but I think the factory bolts are metric class 8 which is equivalent to a grade 5 SAE. A stronger bolt like metric 10 or 12 would allow us to install the LBJ with higher torque values.

I can't see how it could hurt. Most failures are not due to correctly torque'd bolts though but the ball joint itself shearing off after all the grease leaks out.

Would anyone know these bolts size and grade .
I'd consider upgrading to a stronger bolt. . Broken bolts are unacceptable .

Looking more carefully I think the factory bolts are class 11 which is quite strong. ARP chromoly studs and nuts might be the only real upgrade.

So after seeing this I legit purchased some lbj but I have some doubts . I posted in the what did you do to your 3rd gen today but figured I’d post it here as well since it makes more sense here.

I Got my ball joints in today from amazon but to my surprise amazon stickered over the Toyota part number? Wtf? How do I know if these are legit? There’s a Toyota sticker underneath the amazon sticker but anyone can resticker the bag. Plus I can’t read what the sticker says underneath because again the p/n is blocked off... any help would be appreciated are there any indicators I should look out for that let me know they’re legit?
