I'm considering a new MacBook Air or Pro with Final Cut Pro to step up my game. Some quick questions:

1) How important is GPU? I noticed on the Air models one has 7 core and the other has 8 core, not sure if that is more for gaming than video editing?

2) The Air models only allow up 16gb of RAM vs the 32gb available on the Pros. Obviously more is better, but is 16 more than enough for what I want to do, or would you strongly suggest the Pro with 32gb.

I will only be using this computer for video editing as I have an iPad Pro that I use for all of my other internet needs. I just feel very limited by what is available through iMovie.

Thoughts? Opinions? Please feel free to share.

For what it's worth, I do a lot of video editing using Final Cut Pro on my 27" iMac with 16gb of RAM and 4gb of VRAM. I bought my iMac in 2017, so it's not the latest model. It has four cores.

Thanks for the Information Ray, just curious if you have issues with the computer being slow or bogging down when processing 4K videos?

I have an iMac that is 8 years old and when I tried to down FCP to it, I get errors saying it isn't compatible.

I'm thinking I need to upgrade my computer given mine will probably be overly sluggish.

Not enough to matter. The only time it gets really slow is if I'm running certain plugins that are notoriously slow anyway. Of course faster hardware is always desirable but so far what I have is meeting my needs.

...It has been many months since I posted anything new...:noidea:

...So what I did today was post a new video of the year 2020...:ranger:

...OK...as a HELLUVA lot went down last year!..:yield:

...to be a bit more specific...:noidea:.

...I posted a video of what I did and where I went with my 4Runner...:clap2:


...As many long-time readers may know...I do not rock-crawl...

...I do not overland...I do not take cross-country road-trips...:lookout:

...I am a Nature-Photographer living in SW Montana....:cowboy:

...So, I use my 4Runner to take me out and get me back from cool places where I can setup and take photos, video, and time-lapses...:director:

...I have outfitted the inside with a large bolted-down lockable box for my gear, and a sleeping platform...recovery-gear, etc...and drive off on ranch roads and national-forest roads...and any other dirt roads that take me to scenic places...


...I have a brother who lives in Mesa, AZ..who is also a Nature-Photographer...and we share videos back-n-forth of our adventures...

...SOooo..altho there will be no actual footage of my beloved 4Runner in the following video....it helped me produce this piece...and I could NOT have been able to do it without my 4Runner!...:thumb:

It's a little different from my usual videos. I wasn't able to fly my drone, so there are no aerial shots. But there's plenty of beautiful, snowy scenery and interesting sights. I think it's the next best thing to being there, and I hope you'll enjoy it.

It's a little different from my usual videos. I wasn't able to fly my drone, so there are no aerial shots. But there's plenty of beautiful, snowy scenery and interesting sights. I think it's the next best thing to being there, and I hope you'll enjoy it.

Great video. Really nice. Nissan or infinity in the ditch for a second I thought it was a 4th Gen t4r.
